Dino Mech Gaiking No12 - Sasoringer and Devil of the Desert
The Sasoringers (Sasoringaa) and the Devil of the Desert (Sabaku No Maou) were the 17th and 18th Dark Horror Robot Monsters who appeared in the 13th and the 14th Episode two part story of the original Dino Mech Gaiking anime; "The Red Scorpion Howling in the Desert" and "The Daiku Maryu strikes Back".
_Appearance and Abilities_
Sasoringer(s), while the second Kaiju to see action, was first seeing full on screen, as up until then his counterpart only showed its hands; built in the image of a Scorpion it had a Primary Red color scheme with a Purple Under belly and lower legs and yellow outlines; it sport a blue four pointed star in the forehead. Besides its Claws, it had a Driller for a Stinger at the end of its tail. The Monster was part of an Armada of similar monsters and were capable of firing a Diode Beam from its stingers, as well serve as control system for the Devil of the Desert.
The Devil of the Desert was the first to be active in the episode, though it only showed its hands before its full reveal on screen long after it's Counterparts was shown in full. It was Humanoid Robot with a White/Purple/Black color scheme with blue and green in some areas. A Large Eye design was located in its upped abdomen, had spikes on top of its turbant like helmet had a grilled face plate with its eyes and nose very visible. It had strength as its only weapon, flight capability and could burrow its way under the ground. The Monster was dependent on the Sasoringers circutry for control. It's the first Dark Horror Monster destroyed at the hands of the Daiku Mayru and its new weapons: the Miracle Drills.
The Monsters were massive in size – indeed, The Devil of the Desert towering over the Daiku Maryu and was able to lift it during the second battle – and were the first to defeat Team Daiku Maryu and the Gaiking in battle, in large part thanks to the wealth of knowledge provided by a Brainwashed Sakon. In the final battle the Devil of the Desert becomes the first monster destroy by the newly modified Daiku Maryu using the Miracle Drills, which later become part of the Gaiking Arsenal.

The first part (The Red Scorpion Howling in the Desert) starts when a British Expedition team disappears near the location of newly found Pyramid, Team Gaiking travels to the Sahara Desert to investigate – Sakon in particular who is motivated the most, as his father died when traveling to explored the Legendary Pyramid 18 years prior, only his journal and pendant recovered.
By the time they arrived at the Tassili Mountains, an expedition is launched on land, with Skylar and Bazolar providing support in the search – the team see the 8000 year old pictures are found in the rocks depicting animals as well the so called Martian God, naturally suspecting alien activity as Sakon and Daimojin explained the Myths and Legends from the locals in the area as well old Testament Lore, likely the alien activity witness by the people of the time. Finding nothing, Fan Li and Yamagatake return to the ship, but later discovered a toppled truck of the British expedition in the middle of the desert, a Sandstorm hits they come under attack by the Devil of the Desert from below, who begins to pull the Daiku Maryu under the sand, with all attempts to escape proving futile – even an attempt to launch Gaiking is stopped by the incoming sand, the Four Zela Generals watching at its demise; seeing no other choice, the ship pulls a Screw Escape manuver, which the Daiku Maryu spinning and escaping from the Beast's grasps. When they emerge, they find the Legendary Pyramid and a team compose of Sakon, Sanshiro, Fan Li and Yamagatake travel on the Bazolar to explore it.
The team enters the ancient structure, unbeknownst to them they are been watch by the Generals and Sakon is made the main target for capture when showing his brilliance. As they explore further down they find the Red Scorpion and the half of his late father's pendant, they group come under attack by Robot Mummies; though the group fends off their attackers and escape, but Sakon is captured when finding the chamber was the Factory for the Red Scorpion and taken for Brainwashing in a far more advance machine, becoming a collaborator of the Zelans and provides vital information on the Daiku Maryu's Weak spots. The Zelans then attack with Desert Devil emerging from the ground; Sanshiro enters into combat with the Gaiking when the Red Scorpion breaks through the Pyramid and captures Gaiking in its claws. The Daiku Maryu enters in combat to help, but is overpower by the The Devil of the Desert, and the Red Scorpion, after tossing a knock out to Sashiro provides a crippling blow with its driller stinger the Guide Pipes for the Integrated circuit, the Devil then grabs the Daiku Maryu and tosses it to the ground, knocking the entire crew out. Ending the First Part.
In the Second Part (the Daiku Maryu strikes Back), realizing the severity of the situation and for the safety of his crew, Daimojin chooses surrender and wait till the chance presents itself for escape; the now captured crew walked down the facility, where they see an armada of Sasoringer Robots – Smaller versions of the Red Scorpion - been built and are taken to the Command Room where they meet General Asimov, the onlookers shocked by his size, and is he who reveals Sakon was the reason for their defeat and capture, now cooperating with them; an angry Sanshiro tries to attack Asimov in anger, but is just tossed aside with a slap. The group is taken away when they stumble upon Sakon; in anger again, Sanshiro attacks and beats him but is put down by a Guard and Sakon is taken to the Infirmary while the crew are imprison.
In the Infirmary, Sakon begins to suffer from a massive Headache and after a scan, his brain cells have evolved, giving him a greater I.Q. Of 300 and thus making him a super genius and under Asimov's order he put to look at the taken to looked at the Sasoringer army for any deficiencies, thus increasing its power; after the positive report, the General orders them to destroy the Daiku Maryu and its crew with it, but Sakon interdicts, suggesting to use the Ship instead for the World Domination plan. The Generals discuss this, with Killer been a voice of Opposition, though the vote comes three on one, to see what Sakon does.
Sakon then tries, under threat of death, to get the assistance of the Daiku Maryu Crew to repair their vessel for Zelan use, but when Daimojin refuses to do so Sakon shoots at him and later to Sanshiro, to the shock of the others. He is disarm by Fan Li when trying to shoot Midori, but Fan's attempt to get the gun is stopped by a guard. As he walks away, Sanshiro promises to kill him, only giving a smile from his former friend in return. Afterwards, the villains force the crew to work on the modifications for the Daiku Maryu, while they unleash the Sasoringer Armada across the countryside, destroying cities and the military alike – Dr. Daimojin in the hospital, coming to realize that the state of the Sahara is the result of the ancient Robots having been used in the past, tells Midori to still hope in the despair.
As the Generals report to Darius of the developments, the Emperor orders the termination of Sakon, finding no trust in Humans and the Zelans try to carry out the termination order as well the crew's – Sakon activates his trump card and the Daiku Maryu activates blasting a smoke scream from its mouth, allowing the crew to run back to the ship, while Sakon set out to destroy the factory; As the ship takes off ripping through the pyramid, the structure collapses, killing every Zelan inside. Sakon escapes last, after recovering his father's pendant and is hunted by the Desert Devil – the Daiku Maryu rams the Monster and recovers Sakon. As the ship deals with the Devil, the rest of the Sasoringers come out to provide assistance; Sanshiro launches the Gaiking and joins the battle, though is not able to dent the monster with its weaponry. Sakon pieces together the Pendant and studied and is reveal to hold the plans for the Sasoringers' circuitry, their weak spots located in the right eye, this also serving as control for the Devil of the Desert.
Changing tactic, Gaiking takes on the Sansoringers and destroys them one by one with Hydro Blazer and Saur Geyser; losing its connection with the Sasoringers, the Devil of the desert begins to malfunction; as the Gaiking components return to their place, the Daiku Maryu, uses its modified Zelan weaponry – the Miracle Drillers – and pierces through the monster, disposing of it quickly.
After the battle, it is reveal that it was thanks to Sanshiro's attack on Sakon that broke him free of the Brainwash, though Hachiro asks "if he did meant to shoot at Daimojin?", calling him a Big Jerk and Daimojin demands of Sakon to not act like that again, promptly laughter from the others...
