70mm reel

This is a 70mm film reel. It felt bigger than a 2000 foot reel, but looking at the picture I'm less confident than that.

Taken at the 48'th annual CWRU Film Society movie marathon.

Woah, never seen one before. Conceptually I knew 70mm would be large, but seeing that reel makes it, real.

When it has film on it, it must weigh 60 pounds.

But this isn't IMAX, this is 4 perfs/frame, the same height as normal 35mm movie film. IMAX is 15 perfs/frame. With the most interesting trivia being that the perfs on 35mm are also used on 65mm and 70mm.
