Chapter 6 - Flopsy Makes a Friend
<<< PREV | FIRST | NEXT >>>
The first chapter I wrote after the break, I really enjoyed this one. Flopsy learns that in spite of this being such a huge city compared to what she's used to, it's still a small town and things are connected in ways you wouldn't expect.
I also get to drop a bit of worldbuilding hints, or at least questions. ^_~
The girl from Chapter 4 returns and helps Flopsy feel like she's helpful, like she's doing the right thing. And she gets to make a connection with someone new, even if it's over a misunderstanding. And then she gets to feel like her attempts to help are making things worse...
Poor Flopsy. Maybe soon, things will start making sense, and you'll be able to answer all the questions piling up about who you are, what's going on, what your place is, what path you should take in life...
...Maybe not soon. ^_^;;

i have some crystals/rocks i keep in a lil bag by my bed. somtimes before i go to sleep i hold em up and say some stuff to Ceridwen the celtic goddess. i wonder if flopsy wuld say my rocks are good ones?? i picked them all out as being "transformation" related, and i think one of them was literally listed as being helpful for autism (lol i dont know how that works but whatvr)
Distinct possibility! If you're not specifically using them for magic, then the biggest thing is gonna be their meaning to you, after all. Without using actual runes and such (man I wish that actually existed...) or grinding stones for use in alchemy (man I wish that existed too...) then the actual elemental/magical properties of the stones' essences is going to have a pretty minimal effect. ^_^ But hey, at least you have a way to focus your thoughts, which is a valuable tool indeed! Though, if any of them actually DO result in a transformation, be sure to let me know so I can get some of my own!
Hm... Why DOES Terra have a month named after an Earth emperor? >.>
And poor Zach, in way over his head, getting way more weirdness than he bargained for when he made that silly joke... ^_~

Man, I really shouldn't have read this before bed, because it sent me into a crippling state of wanting to be my sona. (The story is really good to be able to induce this feeling, so don't feel bad)
As for the story, I guess it was too much to ask that the assassin would have died in the explosion. Well, I guess it's never too late for them to die properly this time.

Thanks for the kind words! I'm really glad you're able to feel so strongly from my writing, it means I'm doing a good job connecting with you. ^_^
Truthfully, the whole reason I started writing, was because of that same crippling state of wanting to be my Main Form. I just didn't expect Hoofbun to return like it did! I actually was poking at ideas for a Metroidvania game with a non-human protagonist, and thought back to Flopsy since I figured an anthro player character would be easier for audiences to adapt to than Princess. Somewhere in the process, Hoofbun started to Resonate again, when it'd faded a few years back. First time a form's ever returned, and first time I've ever had more than one Main Form at a time. I eventually decided that even if I was in good enough shape to do all the programming, I wouldn't be able to do the art, music, or lots of other stuff. And since I was already enjoying writing, I figured I'd turn it into a story series!
Some aspects of Exodimensional Hoofbun Flopsy come from that origin, such as her Nowhere (which was how I was going to handle her inventory), the gryphon feather (which was going to be obtained from a boss in order to craft a double jump upgrade), her strength (which were going to be tiered upgrades allowing her to open additional paths, either by moving obstacles or destroying walls), her horseshoes' traction (which was originally going to be "Why every level isn't Ice Physics" but then I was debating whether to start with wall jump or have it be an upgrade), and a few others. The plot, however, was going to be totally different, and likely going to involve going back and forth between Terra and Earth to stop a warlord from using an army of monsters to lay waste to both worlds. (I even had three endings planned out, a Bad, a Neutral, and a Good. They'd have been based on how much you did with sidequests to help Freymoor and the people who live there.)
Whenever I'm writing, I try to Channel that form as much as possible, so I can make sure to write in all the sensory details that come from having a nonhuman body. That feeling is my main goal, giving people a moment to indulge in feeling it as vividly as possible. Or, for people who have never felt it, give them at least a sense of what it feels like to have a phantom tail/hooves/ears/wings/horns/whatever. I try to include body language that makes use of those body parts, too, by imagining myself feeling whatever emotion is in the story and seeing how my phantom parts react, so I can make the sensations seem more authentic.
And yeah, Malik is a real jerk. A comic book world deserves a comic book villain, I think. ^_~
