This is a Herring Gull in Portree, the main town on the Isle of Skye in western Scotland. The picture straight out of the camera was okay, but lacked a little something, so I thought I'd try a bit of editing. This is the result of successive Unsharp Masking, way beyond what I'd normally use, and I think it looks quite striking. Image noise retained deliberately, incidentally.

Ooh, now this is kind of neat. I've seen a few paintings that could have been photographs on here before, but this is the first time I've seen a photograph that could be taken for a painting! It does look quite striking, especially the gull! And people wonder why birds frighten me. But I'm sure he was just smiling for the camera.
