(i asked myself: so why do people in this future not just engineer themselves to not get fat or hairy? the answer is the same as always: money. quality gen-gineering ain't free, patches are cheap. the upper class has perfected themselves long ago to be ever beautiful. sure Jemma doesn't need this kit, she was designed to be perfect. unlike Iki who is a fairly standard, fairly broke human being. and even if classicism wasn't the problem, not everybody trusts in gene alteration. even in the future some people are held back by idiotic traditions and superstitions, similar to anti-vaxxers right now. see it's "natural" for people to get fat when they overeat, or die of cancer. we shouldn't meddle with nature/god or whatever. no gene-alteration for you, son!)
i think the irony here is that D. would love her no matter how fat or hairy she got, but that's not a story anyone would want to read now is it :U it's double unfair cause D. doesn't even have to work out to look good, his muscles don't atrophy... would hurt her pride to look like a slob next to him

Reading the under comment I couldn't help chuckle, and be reminded of the kind of people who're like that..

Wouldn't mind some of those patches myself. Some products these days do help to deal with overeating, but they're either super expensive (Lilly again....) or literally amphetamines.
Though I do wonder in this universe if there are any sort of drugs that are "illegal." It strikes me as the kind of place where money can get you almost literally everything.

Drug laws are very lenient in the Structure. For example Buff is technically only legal under supervision, like if you're an athlete or do any kind of heavy physical labor. Taking Buff to start a bar fight isn't.
As such, only drugs with severe known side effects are illegal. I talked about it a little on another page, but stims that makes you physcially dependent are outlawed in many places. As in, stuff that actually changes your metabolism permanently, or makes your body not able to use/produce specific chemical compunds on its own. Stims that bascially give you insta-deficiencies, so you'd be dependant on a company providing you with their brand of synthetic proteins.
This all regards modern stimulants however, which are nothing like our current day drugs. Old timey drugs like alcohol are outdated and rarely even used except by the absolute poorest bums in forgotten colony slums. Why deal with slurred speech and headaches when you get a better buzz with 0 side effects from any aug-food lemonade?

overdosing is not possible with most stims. it's "smart" medication, if it detects if you've already taken one recently it will neutralize itself.
you'd have to take something additionally that disables those built-in safety measures. or if you mix and match too many different brands that don't detect each other. hence why you shouldn't mix buff and pain stims for example.

sure, but people can stop their aging too. if you can afford to pay for it, you can remain physcially in your 20s after passing 100 years or more.
if you age normally your body probably wouldn't be able to support a fetus till birth. not a doctor but my guess is even if you had the egg cells to spare, a pregnancy in a 80 year old body would result in a miscarriage.
