Now for the very latest member of my cast to be added! (Yes I'm been on a-bit of a spree of cast additions and updates because of the new year)
Say hello to Nichaalas Helmonna! A master alchemist Delphox who happened to have a Fighting Type mother and/or father who's genes for impressive musculature he clearly inherrited XD
Nichaalas here was an interesting addition in how he came to be and how his relations with the the existing cast developed. He strated as my wanting to add another male character to my cast (since the only other ones are Benock, Lahr, and Laalouche) and eventually settling on Delphox and a muscular one at that to help set him apart. Delphox naturally had me thinking that he could be a solid fit for giving Kthaarae a new family relation at last and I went back and forth a fair bit between his being her father or elder brother, but as I drew him he definitely felt more like a father to her.
I then began to wonder about what he does and who he might know on the rest of the cast. His being an alchemist was partially because I'm also working on ideas for a musclebuff mage character and I just love that concept of an unusually strong intellectual, so that fit together well! And since he's an alchemist, I of course figured a good connection would be with Niikalei since she's the Goddess of Alchemy in the Ynaaverse. I just had to figure out what sort of relationship they had and while I thought friends could work, I also really liked the idea that they're in a relationship together (since Niikalei could really do with some more connections to help her feel a-bit more relevant c.c). This of course raised the question then... Who and where is Kthaarae's mother?
Speaking with a friend as I was trying to figure out the answer to this question, the suggestion was made that perhaps Niikalei is Kthaarae's mother? That suggestion rapidly developed into quite the backstory between Niikalei and Nichaalas and even ended up filling in some plot holes around Kthaarae's own apotheosis and so here we are XD
Name : Nichaalas Helmonna
Title : Freelance Master Alchemist
Species : Delphox
Size : 6'7''
Personality : Friendly, focused, professional, welcoming
Relations :
- Father of Kthaarae
- "Penpals" with, friends with, one-time lover of, and now officially in a relationship with Niikalei
Abilities :
- Master of Alchemy -
Nichaalas is unquestionably one of the preeminent alchemists of his home universe. Easily a match for any other, mortal or otherwise, and his only true better being Niikalei, the Goddess of Alchemy. Decades of practice, experimentation, and learning from Niikalei herself (even if he did not know at the time that he was communicating with the Goddess of Alchemy) have given Nichaalas near unrivaled knowledge of recipies, reagents, and approaches to alchemical brewing and preparation. If you can imagine a brew or potion or similar product of alchemical production, he almost certainly knows a way to achieve that.
While Nichaalas does have immense skill and knowledge, he does face some limitations in his alchemical pursuits...
- Limited reagents and resources: While Nichaalas knows a truly impressive number of alchemical recipes, he does not always have access to the reagents and ingredients neccessary. Often needing to rely on Kthaarae or Niikalei to provide those that are literally impossible to find on his homeworld.
- Limited output: Nichaalas is a freelance alchemist with a small workstation set up in his home and thus does not have the materials, capital, or production capacity to mass produce any of his products. A focus on peerless quality over quantity.
Growing up, Nichaalas always had a fascination with the concept of alchemy. Being able to combine various ingredients together to create something new that was able to do so much more than what the individual ingredients on their own could do. While his parents were hesitant to allow him to experiment too much with who knows what and accidentally turning himself into a newt or something, they did decide to let him experiment with the much safer form of alchemy better known as cooking. Even at such a young age it was clear that he had an impressive intuitive understanding of how ingredients could work together and a drive to learn and experiment that did lead to some... less than savory meals for the family.
Those years of learning how to cook and experimenting with recipes and ingredients served Nichaalas well as when he finally was allowed to pick up alchemy for real, he already had a great deal of experience with the fundamental concepts, if not the ingredients and reagents. Eventually attending a prestigious university for alchemists, Nichaalas expanded his knoweldge of alchemical recipes, reagents, and methods and quickly proved himself to be a true prodigy in the field. After graduating with top honors, Nichaalas chose to settle down in an area well known for the sheer variety and amount of rare reagents and ingredients that could be found and found a private alchemy shop.
Nichaalas continued his studies and experiments and was able to live comfortably off of the profits from his business selling high quality custom potions both to high paying clients and even selling cheap to locals in the area needing simple potions and brews. During this time, he received a handwritten letter from someone claiming to be a fellow alchemist who had heard of Nichaalas from associates at the university. This mysterious fellow alchemist wished to share letters back and forth to continue to discuss alchemical concpets, recipies, reagents, and methods. To colaborate in experimenting and expanding the field. Signing the letter simply with a fancy "NKLE"
Seeing no reason not to agree, Nichaalas began a long and productive back and forth penpals relationship with this mysterious alchemist. Over the course of a decade he learned more from this penpal than he ever expected and even came to consider them a good and dear friend. Despite never meeting, this alchemist's personality was evident in their words and Nichaalas felt a stronger connection to them then even his friends back during his time at university.
After nearly a decade of this back and forth letters relationship, this mysterious alchemist suggested Nichaalas attempt a reciped using reagents that he had, to his surprise, never even heard of before. Nothing even came close and he could not determine where such a unique ingredient could possibly come from. Unbeknownst to him, this ingredient actually only came from a single planet two galaxies over and really would be impossible for him to come across given his homeworld having no interstellar capabilities let alone intergalactic. What Nichaalas also did not know was that this mysterious penpal friend of his was not just some random alchemist but actually the Goddess of Alchemy herself, Niikalei. She had taken an interest in him and his impressive skill and aptitude and had chosen to help him become all the better in a somewhat more direct way than she might normally take.
Realizing on his return letter that there would be no way for Nichaalas to get the suggested reagents, Niikalei decided it was about time she finally actually met this mortal alchemist she had been writing to for the past decade and so set up a time for her to arrive and deliver some of this impossible for him to get reagent. Niikalei of course made sure to disguise herself somewhat on arriving to meet Nichaalas and since he didn't even know that the Goddess of Alchemy was named Niikalei or was a Mawile he was none the wiser. What neither Niikalei nor Nichaalas had expected, however, was that they'd actually be much more fond of each other than they had thought and also very appreciative of each other's actual presence and appearance after a decade of writing.
Choosing to make the most of at last meeting each other, the two shared a delicious dinner cooked by Nichaalas himself (having continued honing his cooking skills over the years) served with the finest of wine that he had purchased from an aquintance living nearby who had a penchant for old wines and spellcrafting and often went by "That old witch in the woods." The two talked and talked and talked, realizing that they really did enjoy each others company. Not only that, but Niikalei found that Nichaalas really was quite the handsome fellow, especially with that impressive muscle definition of his and that even with that he had an even more powerful mind. One thing led to another and the two of them ended up sharing much more of themselves than they had planned earlier in the day.
Not long after that eventful night and after Niikalei had returned to her goddessly duties out in the universe, she came to realize that much more had come from that night than she had expected. She later gave birth to a seemingly mortal Delphox daughter, but Niikalei also realized that she could not provide a proper environment for raising a child, so once again returned to Nichaalas and asked if he would be willing to raise their daughter. He was surprised to see Niikalei return and with a child no less, but Nichaalas happily agreed. Sharing one more dinner together, Niikalei then left (still not telling Nichaalas who she really was) and Nichaalas got to raising his daughter who he eventually chose to name Kthaarae.
Over the following 30-odd years, Nichaalas and Niikalei continued writing to each other frequently but did not meet again in all that time.
This changed, however, after Kthaarae's apotheosis. On one of her visits back home, she told Nichaalas tales of the various deities she had been meeting recently including the Goddess of Alchemy. Curious about who the Goddess of Alchemy actually is and what they look like, Nichaalas asked for more details. Knowing nothing about her mother's looks and so continuing without any knowledge of the significance, Kthaarae described to her father someone he came to realize he actually knew very well. Wannting to first confirm this with his "mysterious" penpal, Nichaalas did his best to not indicate to Kthaarae this realization and suggested to his old penpal friend that they should get together again.
Niikalei was curious as to why, after all this time, Nichaalas was asking to meet again but agreed as she really had been hoping to see him again someday. What she had not expected to learn was that the absurdly massive new goddess who had just grown straight past the Demideities of the universe and ascended to post-universal scale and who she had wondered why she looked so familiar was in fact her daughter. So shocked by this was Niikalei, that when Nichaalas asked her if she was the Goddess of Alchemy, she admitted to it without pause. Once the two got past their initial shocks of learning the truth after so long, though, they again got to talking and sharing stories of their lives and of Kthaarae's life and breathing new and unexpected life into a nearly half-century long friendship.
Now Nichaalas continues his life much as he has the past 40 years, but with occasional visits and deliveries of rare ingredients and reagents from across the universe from his daughter turned goddess and friend and one-time lover turned into so much more.
