Many furred creatures that live in temperate climates grow thick coats of fur for the winter and shed it in the spring.
The flexibility in fur coats allows adaptation to the colder winter months without overheating during the warmer ones.
Jace has quite thick fur year round, but that doesn't stop him from donning a thick fur coat for warmth. He literally is.He's being pretty literal with this coat business.
