XXXPaws featuring Anubis and Sekhmet from my lost webcomic “Ye Gods!” It’s always fun drawing these guys again. :)
XXXPaws also wrote a story to go with this that’s quite in character for these two :D

"I hate paperwork."
Being the God of the Underworld was a tough task for Anubis. It was his duty to take note of every soul that died in Ancient Egypt and determine the afterlife that they were going to get after having their souls trialed. The idea of watching a heart being weighed against a feather was amusing, but it paled against the boredom of having to sit on his desk writing reports of each individual soul that visited him.
As an immortal living in a timeless place, Anubis had all of the time in the world. He could laze around all day if he felt like it, but that would mean that the reports were going to pile up. And that would make Ra mad for neglecting his duties. So everyday was a task of focus and patience for the jackal god.
"I'm just halfway done," Anubis complained. "I guess an eternity of doing this chore doesn't make it any less frustrating."
"What's up little brother?"
"I spoke too soon," Anubis deadpanned as he watched a humanoid lioness walk into his study. "And how many times do I have to tell you not to call me that, Sekhmet? I'm the oldest of the two."
"As if anyone would believe that you're my big brother, shorty!" Sekhmet kicked off her sandals and walked barefoot in his chambers.
Though the jackal and the lioness looked nothing alike, they were created by Ra. So technically that made them brother and sister in the mortal sense of the word. And just like mortals, there was a lot of squabbling with them. It didn't help that Sekhmet was a tall lioness messing around with a tiny jackal.
Anubis had a sharp tongue full of sarcastic insults. Sadly, Sekhmet was a goddess of war. She could, and has beaten him up in the past for the pettiest of reasons. As a result, Anubis was forced to rely on patience to defeat Sekhmet.
"Still doing paperwork?" Sekhmet teased as she lied on top of Anubis' desk. It was a huge desk almost half the size of the room, giving Sekhmet enough space for her to use as a makeshift bed.
"Stop laying on my desk," Anubis growled, standing up and moving the piles of papers to prevent the lioness from knocking them over with her body.
"I am bored," Sekhmet complained. "Play with me."
"Can't you just drink at a bar?" Anubis rolled his eyes, knowing that Sekhmet wasn't the type of woman who played. She either fought or bullied. That was the way that Sekhmet had fun.
"Bar is closed since my latest brawl," Sekhmet complained as she noticed one of the papers. She moved her body around so that she was lying on her belly and her legs were pointing at Anubis' face. "And I see that I made a load of work for you. I think I killed at least ten mortals in that bar."
"Sekhmet..."
PLAF!
Sekhmet curled her legs up, slapping her paws into Anubis' face. The jackal fought his instinct to grab Sekhmet's ankles, knowing that the lioness would take it as a challenge. The last thing that he needed was to have his face squeezed flat.
"You're so cold, little brother," Sekhmet faked surprise. "Here, let me warm you up."
Her paws moved up and down Anubis' face, treating it like a toy. The temperature of her paws increased until smoke was coming out of them. A normal mortal would be burned, but Anubis wasn't burning. Maybe the underworld regulated his temperature by making his body cold enough to resist Sekhmet's infernal paws. Or maybe he was burned and just healed faster.
"Sekhmet, get out of my study," Anubis tried to order with as much authority as he could. It was a null point as Sekhmet wasn't paying attention and she could see the funny faces Anubis was making from the corner of her eye thanks to her paws squeezing and stretching his cheeks and nose.
POP!
The index toe of her left paw enter the corner of his lips. The jackal felt the taste of salt, sand, and ashes in the toe pad while her toe claw was pulling his lip up in a forced smile. His nose twitched against the knuckle of her middle toe.
"TTTHHTOP!" Anubis ordered.
"Make me!" Sekhmet dared him, turning around to give him a smug look.
Knowing better than engage in a losing battle, Anubis retorted to ignoring Sekhmet by focusing on his papers. The immortal battle of wills between Anubis and Sekhmet had started. Though Anubis was willing to prove his patience could outlast Sekhmet's, the jackal knew that, regardless of him winning this battle, Sekhhmet won the war.
