I use markers! I have a set of prismacolor markers I bought a few years back that I primarily use. But I also accent with a white prismacolor pencil -- sometimes other colors, but on this piece I used white to accent.

Also, the trick that I use is never ever use black -- except for inking. My "blacks" are always a 90% and 80% cool grey that Prismacolor has available, so the detail of the inking shows!
