Thanks!
ya know...normally this would've taken me about...1.5-2 weeks...i don't know why. Maybe it's the shiny things in my head or around me or seomthing :P. But this took a much shorter time.
Aw man...i really want to color this...but i'm so freakin' scared as it won't turn out like i want it to :'(

Oh my god, I cannot tell you how many times that those words are my exact thoughts!
If I'm working on a piece and find an error that could be noticeable (like this piece), I'm like: "aw dammit! It's all wrong...I don't want to redraw it ><."
But like you said, I try to find an external environment to make it more believable and not redraw it :P
Either that or I trace it, flip it, trace again and draw again. I hate all those eraser marks and eventually it'll get smeared, I'll flip out, mass chaos ensues, and eventually cry in my sleep xD
So I'll just retrace it.
Now I just gotta take two pictures of myself holding a gun...thank goodness I have some nerf guns to use as reference!

Nerf guns are the win. Got a recon myself, busy on steampunking it. Aside of that I know how you feel, often its a really small deficiency which grasps my attention and make me screw a thing or two over. In my case its usually on a much smaller scale and I alter it digitally if needed. :3
Tracing isn't really something for me. Honistly. I always hate the outcome, since its not natural and spontanious anymore.

Well sometimes I do it digitally as well to make some edits so i don't muck up the original drawing, then redraw it. Well I can't stand redoing something from scratch because it usually ends up not looking how i want it to be.
Tracing is rare for me...if i truly can't create a picture from memory or using reference but STILL can't get it right, I need to trace and make the alterations there. It's like using Poser stuff, you can download a base model, and make it to your own specific needs.

Digitally cleaning my image is a must for me. Concidering my scanner always leaves crap lingering. Also, touching up the origional results in much more beautiful linework, concidering you're always stuck with working in pixels.
I can't stand redoing crap eighter, its horrid.
If I can't get it right in the end, it meens it doesn't wishes to be drawn and I toss it aside, just to make some attempts later on, if that still doesn't work, it goes in my sketch files. :P

I hear ya on that.
Have you tried to use "Curves" on photoshop? It's what i do ALL the time. It takes away the specs and dirt enhancing the line art as well. But the drawback is when to have balance.
Well if you took out the fuzzy pixels all you'd get is the cleanest line art. But it wouldn't look very good :|
And i do the SAME thing...i could never bring myself to throw out a piece of art, so it goes tucked away in some ancient cavern (aka my drawer) for archiving.
