He asked her in marriage and she said yes... sadly, when Scrooge opened his business, his greed grew day after day. He kept pushing back the wedding day and spent less and less time with Belle, becoming a real workaholic as he is nowadays, determined to always earn more. Their relationship degraded more and more, until one Christmas Belle had had enough and left, and young Scrooge in his pride did not hold her back. Old Scrooge's biggest regret... it didn't help when the Ghost also informed him that shortly after she would meet her husband, fall in love with him and be happy with him. The old man, saddened by all these sour memories, asked the spirit why making him go through all of this again. "So that you learn more about yourself and know what is to be changed". Scrooge did not have the time to ask more when he found himself in his bed again, alone, in present time
