Almost 30 years ago, Giles already came with his traveling circus to the city where Michael lived. Just for one day (due to train breakdown), to give one free performance to everyone. The red-haired boy had to work hard to support a bunch of his brothers and sisters. He had no childhood, he spent all his years taking care of them. There was little good in his life, so when he heard the news about the free circus, he began to dream of getting into the performance.

He worked until late in the evening, and when he was free, the circus was already closed. Michael was very upset and began to cry among the empty tents. Suddenly a man in a black suit appeared in front of him. His face was in shadow, but he could have sworn his eyes were glowing red. He said he was sorry the boy didn't get to see the performance and showed off his full tattoos on both arms as a little consolation. Michael was glad for this, because he had never seen such a painted man before. The man in black also said that he would come to town again one day and for him the entrance would be free. After saying good night to him, the man in black gave him some candy and disappeared back into the darkness. Michael remembered this episode for a long time, because it was very different from his usual routine. And for several years he waited for the man in black to come again with his circus. But he didn't come. And he stopped waiting, disappointed in this, as in many other things in his life.

Circus came back only 30 years later and Michael did not even suspect that his old acquaintance had returned.
