A lil short story for the sweet
of his sona Lumi. It was nice to imagine Lupus as the small one, and it is funny the macro in this instance is a white wolf. Still, it was a pleasure writing for Lumi.
A Secret Trip:
A crunch.
A satisfying crunch of wood disturbed the tranquillity of the forest. Its sound resonated across the peaceful vegetation, and agitated the animals’ sixth senses. Woodland creatures that called this home flocked in their masses, retreating to the sky. Just when the last talon left a tree branch, an oak tree was divorced from the ground, before briefly reuniting, landing down with a rustle of leaves. No axe, no machine, nor person acclaimed victory over mother nature in the abandoned forest. Its subtle assassination was overshadowed by a cyan obelisk brushing over the corpse, until landing with a thump.
It was a paw. A plantigrade sole smothered in opal fur, accompanied with navy and orange stripes around its ankle. Above the feet, two pillars of black denim fibre towered up past the tree-line, connecting to the creature’s waistline. The two towering cylinders wrapped around his legs comfortably, providing ample room to thrust those legs forward. Beyond that a pink cotton hoodie covered its upper body, whilst the downed hood dropped past the shoulder blades. A set of headphones with a purple paw ingrained within them acted like a necklace resting comfortably.
Outside the stylish attire, the giant’s masculine visage was exposed to the elements. His face smothered in snow-white fur that bristled in the spring breeze, ruffling it delicately. A set of crimson eyes focused forward to the sun's rays with open invitation. On his cranium, platinum locks weaved down, joined by a single trip of red in its centre. The colossal maw wore a smile as he walked softly through the knee-high forest. Its expansive snout and fluffy ears were distinct to one of a wolf-husky, or wusky.
Yet, resting in the pocket of exposed clothes, on his right shoulder, a white figure was lying into the being’s neck fur. Nestled under the hood was a winter-wolf wearing a set of blue jeans, white shirt, and a blue and black chequered overshirt. The tiny canine rested in his larger friend’s neck fur, letting those gentle thumps rock him tenderly.
“So, how’s the view so far?” The wusky cooed down to his little compatriot, nuzzling his snout to brush the wolf’s head. “Don’t tell me you’ve passed out on me Lupus, hmm?” He teased.
Lupus jolted from the blanket of neck fur, craning his head up to meet the giant’s gentle gaze and wet nose. Rushing to put his paws on the incoming snout, the wolf fought in protest to preserve his dignity.
“Wh-Wha-! Hey, hey! C-Come on Lumi!” Lupus refrained from giving into the subtle tickles with a veil of composure. His tiny hand’s did little to persuade the snout from brushing across his white fur.
“Whaaaaaaa-! I did nothing wrong,” Lumi chuckled lightly to the ankle-high wolf, withdrawing his snout to flash a prideful smirk in return.
“B-But, but you did!” Lupus challenged, craning his head up to meet the wusky’s smile. The white-furred canine’s voice did little to weaken Lumi’s teases.
“Where’s your proof?” The wusky returned, idly flicking his expansive tail appendage, brushing across the tree’s below with a whoosh. Lupus leaned back onto the headphone wall, tilting his head skyward to look Lumi in the eyes.
“I got proof! Ya just can’t see it yet,” The snow-wolf taunted in a huff, crossing both arm’s to press into his shirt.
“Hmmm? Is that so? Guess I’ll have to cancel our walk in the forest then,” Lumi muttered to himself, tapping a claw tip against his chin.
“No-No! I wanna walk in the for-FOREST! I thought we agreed on the beach?” Lupus' ears perked up as he rushed to look down at the world beneath Lumi’s feet.
“Did we? I can’t remember.” Lumi spoke tenderly, delicately brushing his black denim through the forest, trying to avoid a green-stain.
“What do you mean you don’t remember? We spent all morning deciding. Heck, I even sat in your cup of tea on a freakin digestive!” Wolf barked up to Lumi who maintained that gentle smile, whilst he carefully manoeuvred through the woodland.
“Oh yeah! You tasted sweet, sweet as sugar,” the wusky sang playfully, brushing down Lupus chequered overshirt with a fingertip. “Correction. You’re just a sugar cube in clothes!” Lumi insisted, resting a finger on Lupus’ lap.
“I still disagree. Not a sugar cube, and before you say it, I am not-”
“Cute? Yes, you are!” Lumi responded with a wink, tilting his maw to brush over Lupus' head once more.
“No, I am not cu-GAHHHH! Not again!” The white wolf yelped out, trying to lean from the merciless snout that brushed across his head fur.
“Yes, you are! Now, back to walking into the forest.” He said with a tooth-filled grin, moving his snout back to face forwards.
Lumi continued with his gentle stroll across the miniature landscape, overhearing the crunch of old wood crackling under his paws. Even with dexterity, the trees struggled to withstand his incalculable weight, giving way in an instant. Those mighty legs fired like pistons that propelled the gigantic canine across the woodland, brushing past trees as if they were grass. They were bulldozers in denim casing that carved a path across the trees.
Still, with grace, the wusky marched across the ground with little body movements. He could not refrain from the rhythmic thump’s, but the steady body composure was in Lumi’s control. At least Lupus enjoyed it, that delicately woven smile was a dead give away. Just seeing that little beam of delight was enough motivation to continue walking, and ensure Lupus’ eyes remained locked on him.
Lupus all the while sat up-right, getting a perfect view of the divine figure that filled his eyeline. Parting his lips momentarily, the wolf took a bite of the warm and slightly salty air, and sighed. His ears flickered at the air’s bizarre test, but dismissed it with a shake of his head and leaned up to meet Lumi’s ear.
“C-Come on bud, please. I love the forest and all, but you said you’d show me your doggy paddle.” The white wolf politely asked, barely earning a flicker of those satellite-dish ears. In fact, Lumi’s visage remained unphased, just focusing on his next step.
“Hey! Hey, can you hear me?! I said-” Lupus stopped when picking up on Lumi’s stagnant facial expression. “Wait. CAN YOU NOT HEAR ME?!” The white wolf craned up, belting out his objection, still not getting any response.
“Right. You asked for this.”
The wolf slammed both palms on his thigh, standing upwards to his rival. Lumi’s ear. With a low-brow expression and determination in his eyes, Lupus wrapped his fingers around the field of neck fur, and prepared to climb. About to lift off, the canine’s ears twitched at a distant snicker from Lumi’s snout.
“You are soooo cute when you’re angry. Course I can hear you, I’m just playin around.’” The wusky joked with a warm smile, tilting his head to gaze at the wolf’s startled response.
“Wh-WHAT! Stop messing with me!” The snowy canine lightly growled, drowning out the crunching sound of Lumi’s footsteps.
“I would if it wasn’t funny, lil one.” Lumi fired back with a grin, listening to the ground’s crunch transition into a crackle.
“It is not funny. Buddy, I had the whole day planned for us, ya know? The doggy paddle, skipping rocks, even me swimming laps around you.” Lupus went on, counting the three ideas with a raised finger, oblivious to the stronger breeze that ruffled his fur.
“I see. They do sound fun, why don’t we do them?” The wusky insisted in his harmonic voice, staring in awe of the wolf’s enthusiasm.
“We could if we were actually going to the beach.” Lupus forced a smile across his lips, whilst the breeze ruffled his fur even more, flopping his tail on his lap. Dismissing it with an ear flick, the wolf maintained his focus on Lumi’s eyes.
“Why don’t we head there now then? It won’t take long, only a second.” Lumi rubbed the wolf’s white tail, feeling its softness with a single finger. Yet, Lupus muttered a snicker up to the wusky.
“Okay. I know you are big, but you can’t cross a landscape with one step.” The wolf shot back, trying to withhold his laughter with a hand over his maw.
“Don’t need to.”
“Is that so?” Lupus challenged, raising his right brow to the titanic canine.
“Nope!” Lumi shot back with a proud smirk, standing still as he felt his feet slightly sink into the ground.
“How did you come to that conclusion, hmm?” The wolf crossed his arms, concentrating his blue eyes on any clues behind Lumi’s facial expression.
“Just look,” Lumi whispered, gesturing to the wolf with his snout. Without hesitation, expecting to disprove Lumi, Lupus looked ahead.
His jaw dropped. That objectionary stance washed away when the tide struck the sand, sliding across in a splash. Lupus’ ocean blue iris were mesmerised by the crystalline expanse spreading out to the horizon. The wolf’s assertive demeanour trickled away at the view, replaced with a warmth that wrapped around his heartstrings. His white furred appendage sprung to life, idly flapping against the ridge’s of Lumi’s headphones, hood, and neck.
“I…I…,” the little canine stuttered, struggling to find a word to convey his feelings. Except, there was no such word that would be a testament to Lumi’s gesture. Those heartfelt teases were worth it at least, Lupus thought.
When a wave crashed onto shore, it rushed upwards to tap under Lumi’s toe beans. The wusky chuckled lightly from the cold sensation, wiggling his toes to welcome the soaked sand once more. Whilst he did, his crimson eye’s returned to greet the hesitant wolf who stared in admiration of nature’s masterpiece.
“It’s quite something, isn’t it?” Lumi cooed down, lowering his snout mid-way to greet the frozen wolf. This time his chin did not brush the wolf’s head, but rather Lupus was the one to brush a palm over Lumi’s maw fur.
“T-Thank you, my friend.” The wolf mumbled back, leaning to rest his head onto Lumi’s neck fur, taking in the view ahead once more.
“You’re welcome, my friend.” Lumi wooed back, rubbing a finger up and down Lupus’ arm, savouring one another’s embrace.
