I know it 'looks' like i just re-modeled the Crawler APC but i did start atleast 75% from scratch with the Mammoth, that 25% being the front end (windshield area) because i didn't feel like wrestling with angles again.
Anyhow, the Mammoth is the older and argueably better brother to the Crawler. Both APC's see a multitude of uses, but the Mammoth doesn't require itself to be refit for each use. However, the Mammoth is simply equiped to handle the most common situations.
1.) Its underbelly is angled to prevent an IED, land mine, or Road side bomb tipping it over.
2.) It had a turret covering the front, back and sides as well as a 40mm anti armor Twin Coil gun/cannon turret .
3.) The Tires have spikes in them and the tires are all built to keep rolling even if they are flattened. The Spikes add extra traction on climate zones that see alot of heavy ice giving the Mammoth the ability to dig in and keep pushing.
4.) The front area behind the driver and navigators seat is home to the weapons controls while the area past that is where you can fet up to 25 soldiers standing and 15 give or take sitting.
The Mammoth is mostly used for a troop transport and anti-armor platform, its performance for Anti-air is low, however some variants of the Mammoth replace the Coil Cannon/Gun turret with a Anti-air quad gun or missile rack. One other use of the Mammoth is a heavy supply 'tank'. If there is something that is needed to be guarded and no risks left to chance the Mammoth is the ideal way to transport it. The Mammoth has been used to deliver anything from spare parts, ammunition, to nuke's from place to place and never once has there been any complaints made about the condition of the cargo upon arrival.
The Mammoth's engine sits directly beneath the driver and navigators feet, protected by twin layers of tank grade armor and ceramic plates to protect the heart of the massive beast. The Rebel's have remarked at how difficult it is for them to steal a Mammoth, most of the time opting to throw everything they have at it to destroy it rather than lose countless soldiers to try and gain it. This having pleased the GFA having finally built something that the Rebels are unable to steal after having lost countless star ships, tanks, light armor, and artillery to the Rebels sticky fingers.
Don't think i have anything else to toss in.
Modeled in Google Sketchup 7. Took about 3 hours last night to model and an hour and a half to color and tweak this morning.
Enjoy~
