Yeah, that was part of what interested me in the story! Showing that the country's still going (relatively) strong after all those years and sort of defining the modern canon for the country, even in small bits.
Indeed she did, though those are also of other famous rulers (all of them being white foxes). :p I think she rather enjoys the attention more than she considers it an insult to her dignity.
And by this point, they're essentially symbolic, but they do have the power to exercise a few important roles in lawmaking, should they choose to.
