Hey so last months patreon lore doodle! now being posted here! The sprinting gators that were once cats, the Tirndar!
Tirndar (Teern-dar, Tirn for a singular in the Ëla language) Is the sivilão term so of course they go by a lot of different names as they are one of those species of wildlife you find widespread across the breath of the DragonScape.
Jawits, Gnashers, Mordies, Saltaris, etc. many names but I will use Tirndar, the sivilão Ëla term.
and that is uh Sprinting fucking alligators
Tirndar as a Õndemic species and all felines of the DragonScape (from house cats to pumas) Became Tirndar of one variant or another, as species compression is common in the DragonScape as a result of Õndemification. Due to them being descended from cats its no surprise that in the 100 years between the pulse and awakening, they both started off and spread into a lot of environments quite favorably. Not appearing in all environments but you don't have to travel far to find them. There are environments in which you wouldn't usually find one though.
Their populations tend to have settled in open flatlands, be they savannas, deserts, Tundras, temperate plains, etc. But they do also occur in a number of forested areas too just in smaller populations tirndar, as their teeth would probably hint are Obligate Carnivores. Meaning they cannot process anything that is not meat. They simply cannot eat anything that isn't again, meat. Unlike Bulver who have varieties in their diet depending on their variants this is a pretty universal trait amongst all Tirndar
Tirndar are known to socialize in a monogamous fashion and are highly territorial. Usually coming in pairs that raise young before kicking them out, they are known generally to be ambush predators sporting powerful legs to allow them to sprint into and rip the throat out of whatever they are feeling up for that day. Their bite is similar to many species of alligator and crocodile, boasting bone snapping power in their bite strength but also not having a lot of muscles to open their mouths
Now jumping variant to variant (Breed technically)
As always, all animals abide by the same breed rules that dictate the breed of a drek, of course these variants give different traits species to species but yeah, environment and not genetics produce the variant of the animal regardless of their parents
The Pura Arid Variant Is a small breed that exists in several deserts and keeps its prey to a suitable size. due to the dangers of larger predators in the deserts they have a back of quills that have a venom that, while not lethal, if excrutiatingly painful and does a good job of keeping them from being carried off from the great Eagle Wyrms, Stagur, or other such big boys.
They aren't typically a threat to drekir and are often hunted for their food and venom, they are known however to eat drekir hatchlings, eggs, and younglings so in regions where they are known it is common to fortify the hatchery or sometimes even guard it.
It's annoying to have years of hardwork interrupted by a gator cat
The Juln Tropical Variant Is the largest of the Tirndar and, while ambushy are also known to have a lot of stamina and often will out endurance prey to exhaustion before closing in for the kill. They are known to be very dark and green in color and, while they have spines, they are not particularly venomous and are more just a leftover of evolution as an entire species.
They are big, powerful creatures that are highly dangerous to wildlife and drek alike, especially considering the tropical dreks smaller disposition. There are several cultures that prize them as a rite of passage for drekir who want to be perceived as powerful
The Fijal Temperate Variant Is a bit of a tree climber, having long hard forelimb claws and a prehensile tail, while they do frequent temperate plains they are known to be able to climb cliffs and trees with surprising speed and will spend most of their time eating insects and avian wyrms.
Though they can be dangerous regardless of course
Kal or Arctic Tirndar Are another particularly small breed that prowls the tundras and taigas, hunting smaller critters. They are very active during colder winters, often preying on hibernating reptiles of the colder parts of the DragonScape that are helpeless to keep it at bay. It has stout claws that are good for digging through snow and frozen soil.
they do also burrow for their own shelters and getting your leg twisted in one is not a good day and upsetting one is kinda like pissing off a badger, so don't
and the Lãr or Alpine Tirndar Are a special mention here as there are a lot of mountain felines out there and these populations stay in the mountains. Like the arctic variant they are warm blooded but with less fur and a long balancing tail with some very particular camouflage and a mane of fur.
they often migrate down the mountains to hunt or escape the more intense cold
so yeah
