Colony of Kolfugar"I may be king of this land, my liege, but I am not its ruler. The Kobolds may worship as we do, they may speak our language and wear our dress, but they still look longingly at the ruins of the Dragonlands they had descended from. This was their home, their last true stronghold before the end of their empire. It is true, we treat them far better than other holds, we do not torment them and we spare the drake whom remains sickly and deranged, but we still catch them worshipping the broken eggs, still collecting the bones of their fallen masters. Their true rulers are far from here, beyond Kevica I am afraid, and I fear the day they will ever return." -King of Kolfugar to the High King of the United Dwarven HoldsThe Kobolds are a strange race, being one of the few believed not born of the Black and White Trees of Anar, but were created as the servants and legions of the dragons. Kobolds, for a short and stocky mountain race have once been the masters of the entire whole of Middle Kevica, their realms built to appease their masters, the great dragons who helped shape the world. Yet, one day, without much warning the dragons left, leaving behind only a few drakes and younglings for the Kobolds to care for, and their realms were utterly destroyed. Those who were not killed were brutally enslaved by goblins and dwarves, the eggs of their gods were smashed, and the sickly and difficult drakes who remained were shackled in their own temples to starve and die.
Kolfugar was the last Dragonland to be destroyed, having lasted far longer than others, destroyed and conquered by the UDH. Granted to a cadet branch of the UDH's high king, the kobolds feared that their realm would suffer the same fate. However, the UDH's various policies were much softer than others, although no less brutal. The dwarves colonized their lands, but did not brutalize their temples. The kobolds were forced to obey dwarven laws and commands, their people conscripted into armies, but were treated more fairer with a rare tolerance. The UDH didn't wish to depopulate a conquered people, using the kobolds as laborers and soldiers in their wars, slowly incorporating their kingdom into their realm.
Kolfugar is a strange place of dwarven and kobold mixes, as the land holds a special place in the heart of many Kobolds as the last Dragonlands, as well as being believed to be the birthplace of their people. Kolfugar is also one of the only dwarven holds where living dragons are found and 'cared for', although most are prisoners still shackled in their temples. Kolfugaran armies use a mix of dwarven armor but goblin weaponry, with a gun culture having built up over the years by both dwarven colonists and kobold natives. The land's strangeness only increases in its economic power, having a niche trade network amongst the Beastfolk states of the north, with Kobold merchants find their way into Bayland and even as far as the Great Horde.
