Story:
“You can’t be serious right now…”
“Hush now, it has to be done eventually.”
She sighed in her bed. Suzie, a 10-year old Vulpix, buried her face in her white pillow as the loud, irritating whirring of a vacuum cleaner was all-too apparent in her room. Her mother, a Ninetales called Anne, was simply cleaning her only child’s room.
At 7am on a Saturday.
“Can you not let me sleep today? I just wanted to sleep in…” Suzie whined, voice being muffled as her pillow rustled slightly from her voice not really traveling all that much. Her mother shook her snout dutifully and continued.
Suzie’s 6 small tails curled around her underwear as she buried herself almost completely under the pillow. She was shocked at how comfortable it was compared to just being sprawled out on her bed. The monotonous click of a button was heard and a strange zipping sound, too, although the young Vulpix couldn’t really see much from her soft new ‘den’.
The sound stopped completely, and she moved her head out from her soft barrier, ears flicking attentively as her tails moved back up to their upright position. Blinking, she noticed the distinct absence of her mother from her room, and a clearly cleaned floor.
“Finally…” she muttered to herself, before hopping off her bed and landing on her four paws.
She stepped over to her dresser to get out some clothes for the day before going to go eat something. Opening drawers, she picked out one of her favorite shorts, which was just plain pink, a new pair of pinkish-white frilly underwear, and a…
‘Hmmm…’ Suzie thought to herself. ‘That’s odd. I could’ve sworn that I had some spare shirts.’ Glancing over to the only thought suspect, her suspicions were confirmed at the fact that her hamper was completely stacked to the point of near-overflowing. She grumbled to herself, before pouncing on top of the hamper and pawing through it, fishing out a plain-old yellow shirt. Putting her clothes on, she threw her worn underwear into the already full hamper, before getting fully dressed. Sliding her shorts on, she remarked to herself that she’d just have to do her laundry before she goes to bed that night.
Walking downstairs, her Ninetales mother was already long gone. A note on the counter confirmed this, showing what she wrote as Suzie read it.
“Sorry about vacuuming, sweetie. I’m at work now, so you can enjoy some fresh berries for breakfast and lunch. I’ll be home with dinner, mkay?” And a kissy face marked at the bottom.
Rolling her eyes, Suzie walked over to the fridge and popped it open, before locating her requisite Oran berries and popping a few into her mouth. Satisfied, she closed the fridge and walked over to her living room, before sitting down, tails curling around her front paws, and grabbing the remote to her television and watching one of her shows.
Hours passed, and the most entertaining of things happening down in the little fox’s household was Suzie shifting positions slightly three times, grabbing a water bottle, eating 2 Oran berries for lunch and some Pinap juice, and making a quick break to go to the bathroom, before almost mechanically returning to her rightful couch seat, squishing into the couch slightly, as her blue eyes were practically glued to the television. It would take a lot to break this Vulpix out of her favorite weekend routine.
But eventually, it came to pass, as the opening of a garage made Suzie aware of her mothers’ entrance to her household, with the first few sounds flickering into the Vulpix’s ears, as she paused her show, before bounding over to the front door and waiting by the stairs, hungry for whatever the Ninetales brought back for dinner.
Anne took a deep breath. She was kinda hauling a lot right now. Carrying a slightly heavy grocery bag using 4 of her tails to do so, the other 5 were dutifully flowing in the (hypothetical) wind. She pushed open the door with her free paw, spotting the joy of her life awaiting her at the steps to her home.
“Hey Suzie, I brought dinner. I hope you weren’t too bored today.”
“No, Mom, It’s okay. I did stuff today, too.” Anne raised her eyebrows. “Watching television counts, Mom…” Suzie rolled her eyes before continuing on her path to the table.
Anne ordered her tails a command, and they set the grocery bag down onto the counter, before she put an assortment of different items out of the bag and away into her pantry and refrigerator.
“Tonight it’s some savory stuffed Poffins.” Anne explained. “This one’s got a few different cheeses and spices. I’m sure you’d like it.” Anne ripped open the bag with a claw and placed the frozen poffins onto a baking tray, before shoving them into the oven and setting it to [MANUAL]. Anne’s tails glowed slightly, before each of the 9 tips emitted 9 small balls of pure flame. Each one gently guided its requisite flame into a small bottom slot on the oven, alighting firewood placed there. The flame roared to life as the items in the oven looked like they were about to completely catch on fire.
After about 30 seconds, the fire dwindled and then vanished. The kitsune cracked a faint smile as she opened up the oven to reveal 5 beautifully golden-brown pastries. Taking them out with an oven glove, she set each down onto a plate, each making a distinct clacking sound against the porcelain, a sign of their crispy crust, and returned to the table with the plate in paw.
The two ate, the smaller fox thanking the motherly one in kind for the meal, before the Ninetales washed the plate and retreated to her office work, tenderly licking her child a good night.
Suzie unwinded in her room, stripping until only her childish underwear was left on, and flopped into bed, snuggling underneath her blankets. Suzie silently wished that she’d actually do something fun tomorrow, before drifting off to sleep.
Her uneventful Saturday was going to turn into a quite eventful Sunday, though.
Gently coming to and glancing at the clock at the top of her room, it read simply “7:44”.
“W-whuh?” Suzie rubbed her eyes gently with her front paws. “H-howsit so early?” She whined out loud. She truly had no clue what woke her up so early. But as she rolled over to get out of bed, she was made aware of something very different.
Her sheets were wet.
Blinking a few times, Suzie wondered if she’d just drooled in her deep sleep (it was possible…), but a damp feeling somewhere different confirmed other, less wanted suspicions.
She’d had an accident in the night.
She put an apprehensive paw to her underwear and quickly recoiled and retracted it. Her underwear was completely soaked. The pinkish-white had darkened a lot, and it was apparent by the state of her pink sheets (which appeared purple) that this wasn’t a small leak.
Suzie sat in shock for a minute, her tails drooping, and ears flat against her head clearly at a sign of her current mood. One minute turned to two, and two to five, as she sat in pure disbelief in her wet bed.
The silence and strange flood of emotion was broken by a knock on her door. This certainly attracted the Vulpix’s attention, as her mother Ninetales cracked open the door and stuck her golden head through the crack, her eyes meeting with Suzie’s.
“Hon, what’s wrong? I heard you whine and wanted to check… in.” Anne’s soft voice trailed off as her eyes gently fell lower and lower, breaking eye contact with the red fox, as she saw the wet marks on both her underwear and bed. Her eyebrows raised as her golden fur bristled all over for a moment in shock.
“Oh… oh.” The motherly fox pushed open the door fully, and nimbly hopped onto her daughter’s bed, with Suzie numbly falling into her mother’s embrace as they met in a hug. Suzie began to cry slightly.
“It’s alright, Suzie.” Anne chose her words very carefully. “These things can happen. They’re nothing to be ashamed of, now.”
“B-but…” Suzie sniffed, struggling with getting words out. “I r-ruined my bed!”
“And beds are replaceable, as are sheets, silly fox.” Anne took a paw and separated the two, bringing them face to face, before caringly kissing Suzie on the forehead. “Although you’re right, I don’t want to replace your sheets every night if this keeps happening, so I think we’ll do with some… assistance.”
Suzie had blinked away the last bits of her few tears. “W..what do you mean?”
“Well, let’s just say,” Anne stepped gracefully off of the wet bed, her tails ushering the young Vulpix to do the same. “That we’ll make sure this won’t happen again. Alright?”
“A… alright, then mom. I trust you…” Suzie breathed deep breaths to calm herself down, before taking off her wet underwear and tossing it into her full hamper, making a distinct noise.
“And you, young lady, need to do your laundry too. It better be done when I get back.” Anne explained sternly.
“Yes ma’am… I’ll do it…” Suzie sighed before beginning getting dressed for the day. “But where are you going? I thought this was your day off.”
“Well. I have some unexpected duties to take care of.” The Ninetales’ nine tails flowed behind her as she turned to walk out. “And don’t forget, please wash your sheets too. I think we have just one spare sheet for you. The other pink one.”
“Aaand that’s another riveting finish! Gill closes the gap with a devastating Earthquake! Miles is knocked to the ground and is KNOCKED. OUT!” The crowd proceeds to go wild.
Of course, the crowd is all contained inside of the box known as the television, and that one individual watching is a rather downed fox. She didn’t know why she wet the bed last night, but she decided not to think too much about it. It wouldn’t happen again if she just… peed before she went to bed. That way, her sheets should be fine. Make it into a habit, and then soon forget about it and she shouldn’t have this problem anymore. Right?
‘Right’ the small, red fox thought to herself. After a riveting morning, she was just home with her mother after she finished running some ‘emergency errands’, she called it. She probably bought something, like a new dress for some wedding. Or something.
It was only 10:00, when a tap on the addicted vulpine’s shoulder roused her from her battling mindset. She turned her head to notice a golden tail, then her mother’s face staring at her.
“Come on, we have to go to the store for a bit.” Her Ninetales mother, Anne, said. “Meet me in the car.”
Suzie groaned audibly. Why did she have to go shopping too? Her mother not only JUST went shopping yesterday, but any groceries could be handled by her telekinesis or one of her many tails. It wasn’t rocket science for Suzie to think they were going to do something other than shopping. Maybe a surprise to cheer her up?
Buckling into her seat, she shifted a bit to curl her tails in a more comfortable spot, before resigning herself to her phone. She unzipped her short pocket and whipped out the device and watched some short videos, one of a Mr. Mime VS Mr. Mime wrestling match. She clicked on it, not knowing what to expect. Except she totally expected them to both stand there the entire time, mimicking the other. How definitely, totally hilarious…
The car stopped, and Suzie put away her phone. Opening of doors signaled the exit of her mother from the vehicle, prompting Suzie’s paws to unbuckle and unlock doing the same as she followed her mother intently behind.
Walking into the store, it was unlike most stores Suzie's been to. It was vibrant and colorful, with a distinct, unusual, yet pleasant scent in the air. Anne gestured for her daughter to follow her, and she did.
In the corner of the store was a changing room.
‘So.’ Suzie thought. ‘We’re going clothes shopping? That doesn’t sound so bad…’
Suzie dutifully followed her mother into one of the changing booths. Inside was pretty standard. Solid white around them, with a section popped out if you needed to do anything on that section, like place clothes, racks, or just sit on it. There was also a small mirror, and two hooks for jackets or hangars or the like.
“Can you wait here for me, sweetie?” Anne said, her voice like silk. “I’ll go grab something for you to try on for me.”
“Alright, then, just don’t forget which one I’m in.” Suzie said teasingly. Her mother scoffed.
“To think my own daughter… so lowly of me…” Anne fake cried, as she stepped out of the room and shut the door.
Suzie was going to go and lock it up, however a pink aura engulfed the lock, and in a flash it was locked already. So she instead relegated herself to sitting down and just be on her phone, but her mind was elsewhere.
Is there a reason they’re here? She’d never even seen this clothes shop, and, come to think of it, most of it was fairly small. Maybe a size down shop? She’d heard of them; they were typically for smaller ‘mons or growth stunted ‘mons that had trouble getting regular clothes. But she wasn’t particularly small for her age, if anything she was just a little under or perfectly average. So why was she here?
As the door unlocked, her ears flickered up as she saw her mother Ninetales carrying something in her tails.
“Alright, Suzie, I know you might think this is unusual…” Anne explained. “But…” Her tails folded forwards and displayed what they were beholding to the young Vulpix.
It was a package of diapers.
