This is the first of my original Cthulhu Mythos species. It is based on the Santa Ana Riverside Monster, a reptile-like cryptid that attacked a car alongside the Santa Ana River in California in 1958. This six foot tall monster had a huge, round, "scarecrowish" head with a beak and florescent eyes, leafy scales, spindly arms and legs that came from its sides instead of under its body.
In my Eldritch Horror Mythos the creature is a Scorrasha. They are plantimals with photosynthesizing coat of leaves on their torso, twig-like arms, skeleton made of wood, blood that is like diluted sap, and root-like toes. Their beak is only used to house their genetalia, they actually eat with their foot-roots through external digestion. They feed on carrion but have a taste for paper as well. The claws contains toxic microbes used to make prey rot faster. Their heart is located in the pelvic region. The nervous system doesn’t have a centralized brain; instead there are several ganglion nodes, distributed throughout the body. This means that an attack on the head won’t slow down the Scorrasha but cutting off a limb might damage its personality and memories.
The Scorrasha come from the planet Nubu. It is Earth-like but with elevated CO2 amounts that makes human visitors feel mild drowsyness and headache until they get used to it. The air is filled with psychotropic pollen and the native food lacks fat and other nutrients that humans need. Scorrasha civilization is advanced enough to mass-produce reactionless anti-gravity aircraft, invisibility cloaking, and biomechanoid technology that can grow and learn.
Nubu exists in a parasite-universe, a stagnant scrap of reality that once had a past and future but now doesn’t; native entities ’experience’ this as a ceaseless present with a vague awareness unable to think and act. The parasite-universe can attach to other universes and suck out their time for itself. At the start of this process time moves slowly in the parasite compared to the host but it will over the span of weeks accelerate while parts of the host universe will slow down.
In my Eldritch Horror FATE rpg, the parasite universe attaches to ours and a hidden gate opens in America. The Scorrasha sends flying saucers to explore Earth and collect samples (such as cattle and humans), with the intention of eventually invading Earth since they're that desperate to experience linear time once again. The human investigators responding to the mysterious sightings and disappearances will first deal with with the automized biobots, including bean-shaped exploration probes and plane-like defense drones, before they will encounter the Scorrasha on the hidden ships and Nubu. In this adventure, rescuing the abductees and prevent further Scorrasha intrusion are top priorities.
