Frankenstein street

Street in Bensheim, it is named after the village of Frankenstein, which is quite near and actually part of the city of Darmstadt (the selfproclaimed science city, due to its many universities, research institutes and the ESA mission control) now. On a hill over that village is the famous Frankenstein castle.

I do remember reading the IRL legend of the Baron and his death from a monster that had taken his castle while he was away at war (Crusades?). The true scary stories book in the 1970s was a little vague on some details, but the men he had left had been murdered by some tall, hairy brute and taken the castle for his own, terrorizing his villagers. He charged in and fought the monster, killing it. The Baron was badly injured in the fight by a club and the beast's ragged nails and died of blood poisoning. The illustrations showed a 2 meter tall skin-wearing wild man. True or not, I sometimes wonder if stories of ogres and trolls were neanderthals...

I don´t think this story holds value. There was however a noble in the 16th century who was an alchemist and was rumord to experiment on corpses, which is probably where the story originates.
