Gabby was flying faster than she had ever flown before. This made it hard for Spike, who was finally getting used to having wings to fly with, to keep up with his boisterous griffon friend.
“GABBY!” he called out as the super excited delivery griffon, yet again, flew away from him. “SLOW DOWN!”
FLAP-IP!
WHOOM!
“Sorry, Spike!” she apologized while abruptly ceasing the flapping of her wings and coasting back towards her dragon friend. “I guess I really am too eager to get to The Crystal Empire!”
“Have you ever been there before?” he asked.
“Not yet!” she replied with an ear-to-ear smile. “I heard it is really beautiful and that little Flurry Heart is such a cutie-patootie!”
It was now Spike’s turn to smile wide as a bit of a blush formed on his cheeks.
“What else have you heard about The Crystal Empire?” he asked in a way that he hoped would allow him to boast about being Spike: The Brave & Glorious.
Gabby hummed to herself as she thought on her friend’s question.
“I know there’s a magical crystal heart that uses love to keep it from getting super-duper cold,” she replied thoughtfully. “I also know that Princess Twilight’s brother is married to The Crystal Princess and that Flurry Heart is their extra special baby!”
Spike’s ear fins drooped as he came to realize how much Gabby was focused on getting to meet Princess cadence, Shining Armor, and baby Flurry Heart.
“Are you okay, Spike?” she asked upon noticing the sad look on Spike’s face. “Are you feeling air sick? We can land and rest for a moment if you aren’t feeling well enough to fly.”
Spike forced a smile as he shrugged his shoulders.
“I’m fine,” he replied with forced enthusiasm. “I just remembered something from, uh, last week’s game of Ogre’s & Oubliettes. That Discord always has to have the last laugh, you know.”
“Hey, Spike,” she said in a hopeful voice. “Do you think I could try that game with you and your friends?”
The young dragon found himself quickly going from feeling disappointed to being all bashful.
“I, uh, suppose so,” he answered as a dopy expression formed across his face. “I’d just have to, uh… to… ask the guys. I could even help you make your character.”
Gabby moved herself closer to Spike.
“Woo-hoo!” she cheered “You’re the best, Spike! Talk about having the best day ever!”
FLA-FWOOM!
“Whee!” the giddy griffon cheered while zooming ahead and performing a series of erratic loop-de-loops, barrel rolls, dives, and climbs. “Woo-hoo!”
Gabby’s limitless energy and boundless optimism never failed to make Spike feel super happy, too.
FLA-FLAP
WHOOSH!
“YEAH!” he cried with delight as he zipped ahead even faster than he had flown before. Next stop, The Crystal Empire.
***
FWISH!
FWOOF!
“Woo-hoo-hoo!” the artic-grey colored griffon cheered as she zoomed through the protective barrier that separated the snow-covered tundra from the ethereal Crystal Empire. “This is so amazing!”
Spike delighted in Gabby’s reaction to her first visit to The Crystal Empire. He had been to this enchanted land, which was located between Equestria and Yakyakistan, many times before to assist Twilight’s brother, Prince Shining Armor, and his wife, Princess Cadence, with matters both big and small. However, the happy-go-lucky delivery griffon’s reaction to going from being in the middle of a light snowfall to feeling the warm rays of Celestia’s sun with absolutely no traces of snow at all made him feel as if it was his first time in the magical kingdom all over again.
“Look at all the shiny buildings!” the giddy griffon called back to her purple-scaled, dragon friend. “There’s just so much siny!”
“Yeah!” he replied with a merry laugh. “Hard to believe we were just getting snowed on just a minute ago!”
“Oh, yeah!” she chirped upon remembering how a light layer of snow had accumulated over her body. “Wee-hoo-hoo!”
The emerald-eyed dragon could not take his eyes off his artic-grey colored friend as she performed a series of barrel rolls to shake off what precipitation had yet to either melt into her fur and feathers, or be blown off by her jovial soaring towards the crystal palace.
“SPIKE!” she suddenly squealed while clumsily attempting to stop her forward momentum. “You’ve got to fly down and see this!”
SHWOOP!
The lime-bellied dragon was caught off guard until his eyes caught sight of what Gabby had just saw for the very first time.
“Oh, yeah,” he beamed with glee as he swooped after his griffon friend.
