Another WIP shot of the Deathwing image I'm doing in SAI.
I spent a lot of time working out how I would draw his armour and the lava fire seeping through the cracks. I erased and redraw several parts and changed the colours for the base layer and armour as well. In this version the armour hasn't drawn in yet, although I have some armour sketch work on his head.
I'll likely leave most of his body very dark. I've drawn in most of the red glow for the lava parts. The only other highlighted armour would be for environment lighting and I'll be using similar colours that are used in the Cataclysm log in screen.
Oh, and I haven't done any work on the wings.

They make modifications to the engine with each expansion, but to completely upgrade it would require more time and resources than what they have done with re-designing the old 1-60 leveling experience and the additional 80-85 content.
The engine isn't very well optimized - WoW was Blizzard's first attempt at an MMO and they never thought it would do so well. But they want to keep the minimum specs low as a lot of players don't have good gaming machines.

this is true. but perhaps offer a 'hi res' pack for the higher up computers? This will merely increase texture and memory load for the higher end computers. Also easily enough you can install models with higher polygon counts. I mean the human avatars need ALOT of upgrading heh... The new avatars.. like the bloodelf and such, much higher detail..
Blizzard has just updated the game with sharper, higher res textures for the environment which are a lot better than the older ones.
Blizzard has this big list of things they want to work on for WoW, like the dance studio feature and updated player models, but it's all down to when they can work on it. Items on the list move up and down, so really it's just a matter of waiting for them to get round to working on it. They also have a lot of other things to do, like continuing bug and balance fixes, and additional end game raid content for future patches.

Yep. Way back about 10,000 years in Azeroth history when the Burning Legion first invaded the world, Deathwing created the Demon Soul, a disc like object that gave him superior power over the other Dragonflights. Extensive use of the Demon Soul strained his body greatly so with the help of Goblin ingenuity he had armour riveted into his flesh to keep his body from falling apart. Deathwing is the Earth Warder, the leader of the Black Dragonflight. He was charged with watching over the mountains and earth of Azeroth by the Titans so it's evident that his live blood beneath his scales appears to be lava.
ah, glad you know it:) The fire within him isn't just the lava, it's also the demon soul's power itself trying to rip itself out of the weakness of his flesh; that's what really weakened him, was using the soul, even with the armor riveted to him.
of course, the question now is, what happened to the soul? part of it's design was that only he could ever damage it, it was immune to everything else. So how do you make a being ancient as the rift itself destroy his most valued possession?
Uh, you know he lost the Demon Soul right? It was taken from him during the final battle of the first Burning Legion invasion and then he briefly reacquired it some time before WoW (an orc had found it and used it to enslave the Red Dragonflight), but then it was shattered into pieces. I think Cho'gall has a few of the pieces, as does one of Alexstrasza's favourite consort.
