Double Monster Monday.
Stegorus was a Mutated Stegosaurus like Kaiju and the third Monster in the TV series Fireman, appearing in Episodes 3 and 4 – The Mysterious Space Ship and Destroy the Invaders; as well in Ep.9, A challenge from the Deep.
_Bio and Abilities_
Like Dorigoras and Dorigon, Stegorus was another mutated Dinosaur, coming from the Stegorasaurus species. A peaceful and docile Ocean Dwelling Kaiju he was sadly force into servituted at the hands of two Alien Agents from Planet Metrol by grafting Mind Control Probes on its head in their quest to kill Fireman and take the Earth; Fireman and SAF tried to saved it, successfully freeing it from the Aliens, but in the end, he was killed at the hands of one of them when trying to kill the Giant Humanoid before Mizushima could stop the fiend on time, Fireman then buries Stegorus at sea. The tragedy of Stegorus is akin to that of Toho's Titanosaurus, an aquatic peaceful Dinosaur force into serving the evil deeds of aliens (as well its Mad Scientist Master) in Terror of MechaGodzilla.
Stegorus was a bipedal beast, brown in color, having a long neck and tail, with Dorsal plates that ran from the top of the neck to the tip of the tail, and robust arms; it could breath Fire from the mouth and its plates release an Electric discharge Attack; Its long Tail could hold a strong grip and choke its enemy; Been Aquatic, Stegorus was an adept Swimmer.
Stegorus' roar was a modified from the Gamera Kaiju villain Gyaos.
_History_
Following a Hostile UFO encounter and crash, and the possibility of Aliens roaming the area, Misaki and Chiba stumble upon an emerging Stegorus after the creature was startle by an explosion from the Alien Wreck, a consequence of the aliens using Manganese Nodules with their Energy Device, the radiation mutating a normal Stegosaurus Egg, hatching the creature to its current form (that's the explanation given in the Subs) – despite been startled by the occurrences, Stegorus returns to the Ocean, showing to be Docile, but was witness by Survivors of the Alien Wreck, who later leave a communication device as they explain their intentions of conquest, having already taken control of the Beast by grafting two probes on its head; Stegorus then emerges to commence its attack (That was fast now, wast it?) Misaki and Mariko trying to get close to it, but the Maringon – SAF's aircraft – is shutdown by Stegorus Fire breath. Misaki makes a hard landing helps an unconcious Mariko out, then transforms into Fireman and fights the Beast, but despite its best efforts to stop it, Fireman is overpower by an electrical charge from its Dorsal Plates and various whips and choke holds of his tail while reaching its time limit; Ending Ep.3.
Episode 4; Stegorus dashes towards Fireman, but the latter uses Firecross hitting on the mark, reeling in pain, the Beast returns to the Sea to heal its wounds – Fireman reverts back to its Human form and Misaki reunites with the rest of SAF to begin the search for the Aliens, but these destroy their communications device to prevent been traced – the Aliens the conclude for their plans to succeed they must destroy SAF and Fireman; their first attempt infiltrating SAF HQ and planting Bombs on the SAF Car and Marine, though the latter succeeds (These Buggers do work fast).
Despite this, SAF learns from a report the Aliens are likely Akin to Amoebas – Misaki uses this information to search them for the lack of heart beat, which he later finds them disguise as SAF workers planting another bomb on gas tanks; in the scuffle and attempt to escape, Misaki shoots one of the aliens, melting into Amoeba Goop, while the other escapes, Misaki then sees the other still alive and fully kills it by pouring gasoline onto it and lighten up in flames. Afterwards, SAF is able to repair the Marine Sub but fails to find either the Stegorus nor the remaining Metrol Alien – in the meantime, Chiba is able to synthesized a Gymnosperm from a previously found seed, the aroma of which would be use to calm the Dinosaur down.
Later, the remaining Metrol Aliens summon the Stegorus to attack once more; SAF deploys, with the Maringon carrying the synthesized Gymnosperm to calm the Beast – as Chiba readies to drop the load at the right time, Misaki searches the area for the aliens while avoiding been burn alive by the Beast, eventually finding one, fighting and killing him, but not stopping the rampage as the remaining Metrol Alien operates a 2nd device; Misaki transforms into Fireman to stop and save the Beasts, though it proves too tough; Maringon makes a fly by releasing some of the payload to no effect. However, Mizushima detecting the other device with its tracker follows it to the location of the signal. Fireman is able to hop onto Stegorus back and retrieves the Probes, freeing it from the mind control, but before it could return to the sea, another pass by the Maringon with its payload attracts the monster to land and onto the line of sight of a Armored Batallion of JSDF missile launchers, which open fire, though these are stop by Umino. Fireman tries to convince reluctant stubborn Beast to return to the sea, but the surviving Alien tries to Snipe Fireman with an energy shot – Fireman avoids it, but Stegorus is hit in the back of the head, proving to be fatal to the creatures who falls and dies. Mizushima finds the assailant and kills the last Metrol Alien as a mournful Fireman then carries Stegorus Body to be buried at sea.
Later, as SAF prepares to search for the body of the Dead Stegorus, Misaki appears to protest against it, wanting it to rest in peace, which Umino respects, and SAF decides to leave a floral tribute over its resting place.
In Episode 9, a 2nd Stegorus is seeing, but this subject was dead and ripped apart, a victim of another Kaiju, Nerogiras; however it is believe that Negoriras may have stumble upon the corpse of the first Stegorus.

Tsuburaya really does love itself some tragedy in the old days, didn't it? Also, I find it coincidental that the main means of killing the alien metrol, who are shape shifting plasmid aliens, is to burn them. Not saying they can see into the future, but that's a very John Carpenter way of killing them...unless one or some of the writers actually read "Who Goes There?"(especially since they added the alien death scream for an even bigger dose of creepiness)
