To be fair she never seen magic done by derkir as she was away doing stuff when Forl was treated using magic as well fact her first real introduction to magic being through Balar (which definitely not helping her opinion) you get recipe for bad introduction though I am wondering if Jat learn magic before meeting Dragon of paradise.
Well thats not really correct though I can get where you're coming from as of course, Magic users aren't the most common thing in the DragonScape and its typically brief and subtle
They definitely had a chance to see Sarah using magic in chapter one (though of course they fell unconscious shortly thereafter) And they just saw Jat use magic at the beginning of this chapter to light his pipe.
And the phrase "Once a Firey Brigand" While kinda vague, Might hint at their prior magical abilities before being dragged into the mountains (More of what happened there is actually on the Loresite)
