Using a Proxy Module can let lesser mechs or robots act as real world avatars for Virtual Dwellers - operators in life support stasis, living in full dive virtual spaces.
Their VR is real life - and they can use appropriate bodies, given good enough network conditions, such as this.
This guy is a Virtual Dweller's real life Proxy, and they work as a mech repair and upgrade workshop assistant.
Their "owner" thinks they're renting this guy, but they're actually paying his wages. They might not even realize there's a person behind the five blue digital eyes.
____
Additional notes:
1) A proxy is a mech or being controlled by the neural bandwidth of an operator or person, but does not or cannot hold an operator themselves. There's a person behind the eyes, but the person doesn't live in or extend from this body.
2) Proxy modules may also be used by partially integrated controllers (people with a limited integration, typically around the spine, to power a neural interface with machines) to trade a part of their neural map for proxy, without giving up their entire body in the process. An example could be losing neural access to the lower part of your legs in return for a proxy companion that you can use as an extra limb, split off from your main body.
