Eh, I dunno about that. We know that Oli can't go back. Nobody can. Once you cross the barrier, that's it; you're there forever. So while memories define who we are in the present, if shitty memories are all we have, it can sometimes lead to us being shitty people in the present. Or at the very least, be haunted by our past, adversely affecting our present and future.
Oli is going through the Grieving Process. She's made it all the way to acceptance, and is making a new life here. As such, those memories don't really serve any useful or helpful purpose. They only bring her pain. Granted, it should be her choice as to when she lets go of that pain, but it's still a distraction. And in this new world, *any* distraction from living in the now can be fatal.
So in that sense, the Dragon of Paradise isn't just having a good meal? They're also relieving one of their children of a painful burden, and making it easier for them to focus on living in the here and now.
No, it's not cool?
But in a world of other, far worse possibilities, it's perhaps the best course.

I feel like what saying doesn’t consider fact it more of assumption than fact as Oli was told this by another person who was change as well everyone else who know tried also being changed as well. Oil might been able go back if she (well it be he) was still human but now that she been change as result unable return home.
If I were an explorer and I was turned, I wouldn't be so sad about it. Even on the turn, it would be an interesting experience. But these are the gods, let them go through the forest, because they actually kill, and do not help. Cause I'm not who if I don't remember who I am.
Memory is an extremely important aspect, both grief and joy building you and your character. And even the loss of a couple of important bricks can greatly change your character and you. And you will no longer be yourself, but you will be someone else. And you, you will no longer exist. For you have been erased.
From that moment on, I lost interest in the work. And I’ll just read it only out of inertia, since the beginning of the story was wonderful.

Reminds me of One Piece manga during the Dressrosa Arch. I will censore most of it and keep it vague as well on point. Will place a spoiler warning below:
WARNING! ONE PIECE SPOILERS!
You have been warned!
Ok, in the Dressrosa Arch (as well the name of the island)for One Piece. There are living, talking, toys with a dark secret: they were people transformed into toys!
But thats not the worst of it! Anyone who is transformed into a toy is FORGOTTEN by EVERY living thing on the planet! With the exception of the devil fruit user, who can do one more thing that makes this condition soo much worse by forcing a one sided verbal contract soon after their victim transforms into a toy!
One of the main characters' (not crewmember) was the only one to avoid this contract by flying out the window do to him jumping and trying to strike down the toy devil fruit user. Which she touched him mid air and turned him into a toy.
Later the toy found his wounded and dying wife who begged him to take care of her daughter, while claiming there was no father... For she had forgotten about the man who was now a toy... And so did protect their daughter who forgotten him too...
Then when the Straw hat crew arrive years later. While the team sent to take out the toy fruit person were warned of her power and even seen first hand her work, not only did they blank out on some of the isles' rebels being transformed into toys and fighting against themselves, one of the crew became a toy! And the other had no idea at all and CHANGED mentally/emotionally back to their more cowardly self several archs back.
Theres more to the story but I think that is enough to get the idea. Sure Hiker will lose bad memories, but its NOT just the bad ones. Its whatever this entity chooses to consume. Good, bad, benign, or otherwise.
Regardless, they will not be the same person as they started out. For even bad experiences can lead to improvements to oneself.
Another example is when im Disneys' Walley that while they did rebuild him. He was not the same little goofy goodly robot we fell in love with as the movie played. Replacing even the silicon boatds that made up his mind, with Walley logically going back to his trash collecting programming. Well, it would be the case permanently but this was a Disney Pixar picture so a happy ending with Walley remembering everything and himself again at the end.
