In the middle of a forest at night, there lay a mountain which holds a fearsome dragon inside. None dared to near its den, unless they wanted to feel its flames. Yet at the entrance to its lair, there stood a heavily armored and towering individual, with a wicked hammer just a head taller than them, and a shield as tall as themselves, before entering the dark cave.
—
Inside the Dragon's lair, the Dragon laid on one of its many piles of gold, musing to itself who or what their next offering was going to be. The people of this side of the land were rather “Generous” in giving them what they wanted, in exchange for them not eating or burning their lot. But their thoughts were interrupted by the sound of heavy footsteps, and the scraping and clanging of metal against metal, echoing through the lair. They looked over to the entrance, and saw a giant of a man in heavy armor, stepping out of the shadows. Their face was obscured by a plate with a grim white skull painted on it, yet there were no eye holes in the plate, so how they could see anything was a mystery.
The Dragon spoke. “Well well well, what do we have here?. Another fool here to offer themselves for me to eat, and add their riches to my horde. Tho your riches seem all too gray and dull, but your helmet I can perhaps find a use for. Hahaha!” They bellowed.
But the stranger didn’t say anything, they just stood there and stared at the dragon. As the dragon didn’t get a response, they spoke again.
“Oh, what’s the matter?, speechless at seeing something as magnificent and mighty as i?. I can’t fault you for that, for I am after all, glorious and mig…”
“Pathetic”
“...What?”
The dragon was taken back by this sudden comment from this stranger. This individual!, this Worm!, Calling them pathetic!. This simply cannot stand!.
“You Worm!!!. How dare you call me pathetic!, Who do you think you are!?” They roared.
“Who I am doesn't concern you, what does, is the manner of beasts i’ve slain, and some of them were of your fellow kin, but five times bigger than your sorry pathetic scalie ass!” they said in a deep and grim voice, as they proceeded to point their hammer at the dragon.
“I was both told and promised that I would be fighting a mighty dragon up in the mountain, by the lord of this small piece of land they rule. But instead, I was given a RUNT!. You are barely even the size of a house, so as i said. Pathetic…” they said, as they lowered their hammer again.
“So as an act of kindness, i’ll show you mercy, and let you walk out of here without a scratch” They said, as they took a step to the side and gestured to the exit.
“Why you little!!!. BURN!!!!” They roar, as they bellow a mighty stream of flames at the armored stranger. After five seconds of flaming, they stopped and looked at the cloud of smoke that was once a foolish man, and smiled… But then.
“Pff! you even throw a hissy fit like a runt, are you really sure you are ready to play the “Big Bad Dragon” yet?” The stranger asks, as the smoke clears to reveal that he had blocked the firebreath with his towershield. Which got the dragon dumbfounded.
“But by all means… fine” They say, as they swing their hammer behind them.
“I’ll play the Dragon slayer then”
Then they Flung their hammer at the dragon with such power and speed, which did not belong to a mortal man, as it spun around at an unbelievable speed as it flew towards them. The Dragon had no time to react, as the hammer connected with its head, and they were pushed back a few meters by the force. While the hammer bounced off and away into one of the walls, where it got stuck into.
“RRRAAAGGG!!! WHY YOU!...”
But they didn’t get to finish, as the stranger was charging at them with such a speed that doesn’t fit with the amount of armor they were wearing. And as they reached them, they in the blink of an eye, spun around, grabbed onto the sides of the bottom part of their shield with both hands, and slammed the shield against the dragon’s head with the momentum they had built, as they came around again. Sending the Dragon skittering and tumbling across the floor.
“RRRRAAAAA!!!! YOU’LL PAY FOR TH…!” *Splagh!* “GAAAAA!!!”
But once again, they didn’t get to finish, as the stranger then flung their shield at them with the sharp and pointed end of it, which pierced their hide, and was now stuck in the right side of their torso.
“GRRR!, YOU MISERABLE!... HUH?!” But as they were about to look at the stanger, the stranger was gone. “WHERE DID YOU GO YOU MAGGO..!” Then something HEAVY landed on their back, and started hitting them in the head, Hard. It was the stranger, who was currently holding onto one of the dragon’s horns, while shifting between punching and kicking them in the back of the head. Bobbing the beast’s head left, right, and down into the stone floor with each hit.
“Oh come now! I haven’t even broken a sweat yet!.*Punch!* Didn’t you call yourself a mighty dragon?! *Kick!* Because all I see is an oversized scaled RAT! *Punch!* *Punch!* *Kick!*”
“RAAAAA!!!! GET OFF ME YOU COCKROACH!!” They roar, as they manage to fling the stranger off of them, sending the stranger tumbling across the floor, with sparks flying here and there from his armor scraping along the floor, but they manage to roll back onto their feet. But the dragon wasn’t done, as they swept around to try and clubber them with their tail.
Their tail connected, but stopped, as the stranger had grabbed onto the tail with his left arm.
“Wrong move, Runt!”
Then they grabbed the tail with their other hand, and began to swing the dragon around by their tail, before they a few seconds later let go of them, and sent them flying right into one of the walls of the lair the dragon called home. And as the dragon connected with the wall, it both managed to shake the shield in their torso off them, and the whole lair to, which caused some of the stalactite above to be shaken loose and fall down, and one of these were big.
As the big stalactite fell down towards the stranger, they jumped out of the way as the stalactite slammed into the floor. But as that happened, the floor started to shake again, no, the whole mountain began shaking, as the room they were in began to get hotter, and smoke began to emanate from where the big stalactite had impacted.
The stranger looked over to the still downed dragon. “Don’t tell me you made your lair inside a bloody sleeping volcano!, are you bloody braindead!”
“FOOL!. We dragons have nothing to fear from the fires of the earth!”
“Yeah, you may be immune to the lava, but what about your horde?” *PPPPRRRRGGGG!!!*
Right as they said that, multiple geysers of hot magma began shooting up from the floor, and began to quickly fill up the room, and consume all the gold and trinkets that made up the horde. The stranger, thinking fast, looked up at one of the walls and saw some stone mass he could grab onto, so they, with their inhuman strength, jumped up onto the wall and grabbed on.
While they were doing that, the dragon looked on in horror as his precious horde was reduced to molten slag. But when they got out of their sturper, the only thing they saw was RED. They roared as load as they could in bloody anger, as they looked up towards the stranger on the wall with murder in their eyes.
“YOU!!. MISERABLE!!!. INSIGNIFICANT INSECT!!!!. I’M GOING TO RIP YOU LIMB!. FROM!. LIMB!!!!” They roared, as they were about to blow fire at them again.
“Finally!, now you are getting serious!. So let’s finish this, LIZARD!!!”
As they said that, they slamened their foot into the wall they were on, and jumped towards the dragon. But as they were in the air, they reached their hand out towards their shield, which laid on a patch of floor which wasn’t yet consumed by lava. The shield began to shake, before it flew towards the stranger. And as the dragon released its firebreath, the shield had reached its master, who then used it to block the fire all the way down to the dragon. When they reached them, they slammed into the dragon’s mouth, shield first, and plugged it with the shield, as the dragon kept on spewing its fire.
Now standing crouched on their shield in the dragon's mouth, they reached one hand out towards their hammer that was still stuck in the wall, as it too began to shake a bit.
“That fire of your’s is really starting to get on my nerves!” They say, as the hammer shakes loose and flies back into his hand, which he then flips around so he is holding it with the bottom of the pole, instead of the hammer head at the end. Then they proceed to stab the pole into the dragon's throat, twist it a bit, before ripping it out again, as fire spews out from the hole they made in its neck, and the fire the dragon was spewing, to stop.
The dragon in question, flailed their head all over in pain, all in an effort to throw this monster off them, which they managed to do, as the stranger flew off and into the lava, where they sank down into it. The dragon however was still flailing about in pain, as they tried and failed to spew fire again.
But while they were having a panic attack over their loss, the air in the lair began to somehow become chilly, and then a deep dark chuckle began to echo throughout the place.
“He he he he he, ooooh, what’s wrong?. Sad about losing your fire?. Well… that’s just what happens, when you want to act as something you are not” The voice of the stranger echoed, as a siluet began to rise from the lava, and it was the stranger. But as they rose from the lava, from the corners of where the lava had reached and inwards towards the stranger, it began to cool down and turn into volcanic rock and obsidian, almost as if he was opsobing the lava’s heat.
The dragon looked on in fear, as this… THING!, rose up from the lava and began slowly walking towards them.
“W-w-what the h-hell are you?!” They asked, but their voice was hoarse and ragged from the hole in their throat, as they started to back away from the approaching man.
“By normal people, I'm called a Monster. By Demons, I'm called the Boogeyman. By Angels, i’m called an Abomination. But by YOU monsters…” They say, as they throw their hammer back behind them to throw it, but the Dragon sees this, and turns tail to run. But they didn’t get far.
“...I’m called the Bloody Hunter!” Then they throw the hammer right at the dragon’s hind leg, and break it so the bone pokes out and blood spews out. The dragon roars in pain, as they begin to beg for mercy as the Stranger approaches, still covered in a few splashes of lava, which is also beginning to cool down and flake off. But before that, he grabbed a handful of it, and crushed it together in his hands til it became a fireball of magma, and the only light source, as all the lava in the room had cooled down into rock again.
As the stranger came up to the crawling dragon, they grabbed their hammer again. And the dragon still beged, as they turned their head back to the stranger
“P-Please! I beg of you!. I–I-I’ll leave this land!, you’ll never see me again!. Please!!, i don’t want to di*SPLAGH!* KRAAAGKKHG!!!” They didn’t get to finish, as the stranger slammed their hammer against the dragon’s jaw with such force, it ripped it off its hinges, making the dragon only able to talk in pained gugels.
“The chance of mercy expired the moment you started the fight, so you have yourself to blame for that!. I would have let you go, with only the cost of one of your teeth, to show the lord of this place that the deed was done, but you just had to let that ego get the better of you. But here's the thing” They say, as they crouch down to the dragon’s head, holding the fireball beside them.
“You may be a Big fish in these deep dark waters that is this world, But as the saying goes…” They then place their hammer beside them upside down, and reach up to their face plate, as a rather noticeable *Click* could be heard, and they slowly remove it. But in doing so, smoke began to leak out of the opening and down their armor, and when they had completely removed it, what the dragon saw inside was two white glowing eyes looking back at them through the smoke, as whispers began to sound around them. And the stranger said, in an echoey and distorted deep voice.
“There will always be a Bigger fish”
Then the fireball goes out, and they were plunged into total darkness.

[At the lord’s castle]
Inside the throne room sat the lord of the little land that they ruled and chuckled to themselves, when their personal bodyguard asked them what’s so funny.
“Oh I'm just musing to myself. That last buffoon of an adventurer that came and proclaimed that he would slay the dragon for us, for half of my cuffers of gold as payment!, how ridiculous!. But he hasn’t returned yet, so that just means that the dragon has been satisfied once more, and I don't have to pay a dime! Hahaha!” They laughed, But their bodyguard didn’t find it as funny.
“I’m not so sure about that, they looked rather armed to the teeth. And their armor, I don't recognize the metal it’s made of. Plus, they give off this erei vibe, almost as if they have the Grim Reaper looming over their shoulder”
“Oh come now!, he’s just a man!, how could he possibly stand agai…”
*BOOOM!!*
“EP!”
The doors to the throne room blue open, as the stranger came in, dragging something big behind them, inside.
“O-OH!, Mighty adventurer!. Y-you’ve returned!. Thank the gods that you are alive!. Please, let our healers treat you for any injuries you may have gotten, after your narrow escape from the…”
But then they throw whatever it was they were dragging towards the lord, as it slides across the floor, leaving a long trail of blood as it stops in front of them. It was the dragon's mutilated head, or at least what was left of it. And the lord looks down at it.
“...Dragon……” They grow silaint
“My reward, if you will be so kind”
“N-Now wait a moment!, can’t I give you something else?. Like citizenship?, a plot of land?, what about women…” *BOOM!!!* They slam their hammer into the floor, which creates a small crater in it. “EEE!”
“You know, I just had this ridiculous thought. That this whole dragon thing was just a way for you to keep the people you rule over in line, that you told them that you had everything under control. That you called in low ranking adventurers, and told them that they would be handsomely rewarded if they killed the dragon, but you were never intending to do that, because they would be dead before they found out that you had made a deal with the runt in the mountain, that you would keep sending people up to it for it to eat and loot, and in exchange, it would keep away from your more, profitable areas of income. That you are nothing more than just a little Greedy Rat!”
“But that’s just ridiculous!...” They say, as their helmet turns towards the lord. “...Right?”
“Y-Y-Yes!, of course! that would just be preposterous! HAHAHAhahee…” They laugh, as sweat trickles down their brow. “GUARDS!, bring this man his promised reward!” They yell, as some of the guards that were in the room, quickly run out of the room.
“Fantastic. Pleasure doing business with you” They say, as they turn around and leave.
“Tell you men to leave the gold out in front of the gates, i’ll have some of my goons to come and pick it up later” And with that, they left the lord in a rather dreaded state of both mind and body.

I have a few characters in my lore that have a similar schtick. Its cool to have them, but what I found I had to do was give them opposing forces that had similar powers so that epic battles could take place of two unstoppable forces smashing together. Its deadly, and tends to let me use the "Everyone stop fighting and watch" trope.
I wanted my world building to work with this idea of the heroes and villains operating by a building "power level" based on a finite gestalt energy generated by their followers and gifts from their gods. So the truly powerful ones are rare, but they do clash.
I do like what you got going on with Mal though, he definitely radiates "Don't f**k with me energy."
