The children of Gaia (and Mortis, by extension.) Created by Gaia to act as his envoys to all life that walks upon the earth, and to serve as ambassadors between the many varied clans of beastfolk. Born in the later days of the Time of Songs and Echos to serve as extensions of his will.
They were tasked to spread far and wide across the known world, embedding themselves amidst the many tribes and civilizations of Srreesh to gain intimate understandings of their charges and facilitate their duties as mediators, guides, and most importantly as a common link between all peoples.
Akaalii traditionally appear as digitigrade half-anthro dragon-raptors with vulpine features. Covered in thick fur, sporting a big bushy tail, vestigal wing arms, raptor-adjacent paws/claws, a fox-like face, and two pairs of horns. Many cases have been noted of subsequent akaalii generations adapting to and taking on characteristics of the clan they join, namely fur patterns, and in more drastic cases even facial and minor body features (like hands, horns, or the tail.)
This form of change is made possible by their close attunement to Life itself and souls therein, leading to them being highly susceptible to the influence of the world around them. Perhaps unsurprisingly, they can also appear in any color, though commonly greens or earthy tones.
Finally, their heights average between 3-4 ft tall, but they can reach up to 6ft amongst certain tribes and in halfbreeds with other dragons.
Known to live up to 100 years.
This openness to change and link to life had an ill consequence though. When Gaia sundered Mortis from himself, his connection to them was damaged, irrevocably changing the Akaalii people. It has left them with a feeling like something is missing inside, a void they fill with friends, or treasure, some other total dedication. In addition to this, Akaalii are also the most open to elemental changes.
There isn't much culture unique to Akaalii to speak of, rather taking on the traditions and customs of those they ingratiate themselves with, beastfolk and dragon alike. Though, with Kabaiyo as the dominant power in the known world, those who do not live with a beastfolk tribe tend to congregate in villages close to the larger lair-based societies of the Kabaiyo.
Akaalii tend to be adventurous, curious, and energetic, though are also known to have moments of melancholy and reservation.
For Akaalii naming conventions, their names are naturally heavily influenced by the culture they are attached to, but they are often simple, eg Peter, Prudence, Bob, Healer, Forrest.
To put things real simply; The Akaalii are floofy kobold friends.
