A man who asked for a blessing from a deity and was cursed instead.
Figuring out his design and story. I'm thinking he might have been a soldier or a spy and asked his local deity for some ability to help his job. Maybe the deity was offended or due to being so far removed from human needs and wants, misunderstood the request, and now his body has insect-like chitinous growths.
Maybe he was badly injured and this was the deity's way of trying to save him. I'm thinking he could have some connection with insects, like some basic communication or ability to control them, so the curse isn't all bad. I'm still figuring it out.

Whatever his backstory he's currently looking for a way to change back or a least find someplace he won't be run out of town on sight.
