Just arrived at the edge of the hotzone - it's a huge ship graveyard! Looks like a whole bunch of freighters slammed down into this valley after their orbits decayed - some of them must've come in from a really low angle, judging by the massive skid marks and the fact that they weren't shredded to a million pieces when they hit the ground. SOD Gamma used to talk about how they'd find big abandoned ships like these in low-Earth orbit and around the lunar belt, just drifting through space - some, probably for decades. It's a shame seeing such feats of engineering scattered all over the surface, though, and I hope they didn't bring their crew with them when they came to the Verge. Maybe ships like these were part of a future this universe could've had if it hadn't dragged people like me into it.
I found a nice, calm spot to scout up here in the mountains. There's a big column of black smoke off in the distance, and I see movement near the wrecks - no doubt I'm not the only scavenger here, and it's probably only a matter of time before snipers start taking pot-shots at me. I doubt I'll find what I'm looking for here, but I'd rather scour every hotzone in the Verge than sit and wait for a lead to pop up somewhere.
... Well, looks like I have a lot of ground to cover."
