The tanuki may use a magical leaf that can give them the power
of shapeshifting. For Kaede, this incredible ability was no different
for her. Being around the gorgeous greenery of the Inu-ka Forest
gave her rejuvenating and joyous feelings of returning home.
Her distant relatives lived as farmers in these woodlands just as she
was a young pup. Though brought up in the highest nobility of the
Imperial Court, letting herself go and be free was the most magical
feeling of them all.
