Hey, the more references you can find, the better. Just take what geometry you can find an incorporate it into your style.
And yeah, I used to not really imagine any of my anthros with actual hairstyles, but that's slowly changed as time goes on, especially with the ones I've been drawing. Caroline started as a human though, so she's always had her same hairstyle. :P
