And what little there is to see on the roof.
The reason for the two by three sets is that the roof ridges are every foot while the panels are a few inches wider than two feet and a few inches taller than five feet.

I got lucky on the mounting hardware I picked; the 'tabs' were long/wide enough that I could add a washer/shim to one panel and then slide the next panel's tab under it locking it in place and butted right up next to the first panel. (to better hide the wires between the panels!)
To the right is more south facing roof space in case I decide to add more panels.

A solar hot water heater would make more sense as far as turning sun power into hot water vs sun power to electricity into heat into hot water.
Though if I don't have gas then I don't have heat in the house either - which we'll need in winter far more than hot water!
One big thing most people don't realize is that if the electric grid goes down then there are no pumps moving gas or water. I do have filters I can use to drink my pool water - and I can use it unfiltered to flush the commodes, but my little solar system can't run enough electric heaters to keep the house warm (you've seen those little 1000 watt heaters that might keep a room warm? So 24kWhs to keep one running all day/night and my best day of collecting power from the sun was right around 22kWhs. That ignores the rest of the house.)
The local grid going down a couple days we can get by; major grid outages will make things real interesting.
