I've been doing research, Slovenia seems to be quite the prosperous Balkan state, and your economy's pretty solid, as an economist I can say that your low levels of public debt is pretty impressive ^^
"Due to its macroeconomic stability, favourable foreign debt position, and obvious interest in EU membership, Slovenia consistently receives the highest credit rating of all transition economies."
That is pretty good ^^

Economics is everything! Economics is effectively the study of human behavior and the interactions of buying and selling at a Individual, Business and Government level.
Economics seeks to addess the fundemental Economic problem
We have unlimited wants but we only have limited resources to fulfill these wants
So how do we solve it? Put a price on something. In this way, you have to make choices with your limited resources (your money) and what you choose to get and how much you're willing to pay for it will be determined by how badly you want it. The whole idea is you make choices so you satisfy some of your wants
That's a very rough skeleton of economics, it gets, much, much, much deeper. Wait till I explain how Money is created from Debt ^^

You wouldn't want to live in Iceland now, their economy practically evaporated when the backbone of the Icelandic Economy, their banks, all systematically collapsed. People's life savings were literally wiped out and everyone's lost their jobs. It says a lot that McDonald's had to shut down their entire Iceland operations because people couldn't even afford McDonald's anymore
Yeah, and i wonder why Cadbury or Hershey haven't barged into their markets and practised "dumping", whereby you intentionally sell your products at a loss in a certain market (because you're a big enough company you can afford to do so) and you beat the local brands out on price, and then cause them to collapse, eliminating competition.
If it's croatia then they could have set up Trade Barriers to prevent this kind of behaviour, but if it's Slovenian (and EU Free Trade Territory) then I'd be impressed if that hasn't happened yet

SO you'd be a staunch protectionist, trying to protect local businesses, then?
For me, I'd protect them for awhile, but once they've built themselves up then I gradually remove the protectionist policies so that they'll compete with the international brands. This means now they gotta keep on their toes and ensure they're products are good enough that people still buy them. Competition always means the consumer wins ^^
If you kept protecting them, the local companies would get lazy and make shit products, knowing the consumers will still buy theirs because normally what you do is you place big taxes on imported goods so they're more expensive. Even if the products are crap the consumers will still buy theirs because it's cheaper. The local companies, if they need to compete, will ensure they're products are good enough and their pricers reasonable so people will buy theirs. If they can't compete after they've built enough of a size under protectionism, then they deserve to die. If you can't compete you're not efficient enough. That's the Free Market system, everyone competes

Not really, I see it as a brilliant system that rewards you for your contributions and promotes innovation, efficiency and is the best at distributing resources.
The problem with communism is that everyone gets complacent and lazy, since everyone's gonna get rewarded equally why should a farmer find ways to increase his crop production? Why should a business bring in more machinery and fire inefficient workers? Why should a worker work longer hours? Why should someone go through years and years of university to become a doctor? There's no reason for them too. Meanwhile in a free market you're out to compete and get a bigger share of the pie, so you'll be trying to find ways to make your farm more efficient, you'll be willing to invest in machinery so your factory will produce more, a worker will be willing to work longer if it means he'll get paid more, and a person will be willing to go through years of school in order to become a doctor because he'll get paid shitloads. Through everyone's selfish pursuits of more money, the whole economy and productivity of the country improves, because everyone's trying to get and edge on everyone else to get a bigger share of the pie
Well, that's the way I see it

Eh that what you say depends again. And it's not written in any 'holy book' If I can say it like that, that what you say will all happen. Why...why does everybody allways want to make more and more money? I don't understand >< Money never brings you happynes. Plus you know what I think? I mean, since Slovenia is in capitalism last 3 years we have abut 2o 'Tajkuns' as we call them. They are directors or some other high place and one of them IN THE MAYOR OF LJUBLJANA |= 3 have been arrested and the others have crimes allmost prooven either it's corruption, bribing, being bribed, ilegaly selling stuff (guns as one did for instance) etc. But they can't be arrested cuz their so high up that they simply glitch threw the system!!! Or they bribe people. Plus look at the workers who come to my country from Bosnia, Serbia, Macedonia, Albania...some of them were told when they were kids 'Slovenia is a land where people have order' and when tehy come here they get a job, they live in a basicly container with a bed adn a table, tehy get meals so small you culd just sob, and worst of all pays not only are so small that I can't even begin to describe, don't come in regularly... and the worker's leaders give them 5o€ sometiems just by hand and say this is your pay for this month if you don't like it you can go somewhere else... THIS IS SAD. Again teh system laws of the country have 'glitches' that don't shield theese people in any way so for them it means putting up with theese horrible things or going back to their countries and living badly AGAIN. This is making our country look very bad and I want to stop it. Do you know that the proletariat (if thats how it's calld in english? don't know) = the russian farmers who lived in horrible conditions and decided to work in factories 1oo years ago before the socialist revolution lived in conditions just like this??? >| True in capitalism the educated man get's high payed but some of the not so educated workers (not sayying all,) get the biggest crap ever. You know what, screw it I prefer to get paid just like everybody else to see that everybody can live their life rightfully and get what they deserve and just so I culd see the leaders of this madless put in front of the wall
Capitalism does have it's drawbacks, and that is sad and sickening. Situations like that are when people start taking advantage of the system. But I'm pretty sure in the Soviet Union it was no different. They had grain stolen from them by the government and economic mismanagement by the central planners caused inefficiency which meant the farms were not as productive as they could have been and this can lead to disaster when the planners aren't very intelligent, like the Ukraine Famine and China's "Great Leap Forward."
IN the case you described, that is labour abuse, and it's the reason labour regulations are required, such as minimum wage and proper housing. It always occurs when the government does not enforce proper labour regulations, so you can't completely blame capitalism for that. Even under communism a scenario like that could happen.
The corruption is most probably a legacy of communism. Unfortunately, it's a fact that those citizens east of the Iron Curtain were not as well off as those West of the Iron Curtain. There were often shortages of goods like clothing, food and cars because of the inefficiency of the central planners, who often neglected production of consumer goods in favour of heavy industries like steel, tanks, trains, machinery...what we call in economics "capital goods" and this meant everybody had a "survival-of-the-fittest" instinct embedded in them, because they did not have plenty so they hoarded whatever they could. Take a look at this chart here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:I.....Values_Map.svg
Notice a lot of the ex-communist states are on the left, where "survival" values prevail. It would explain why corruption is so rampant, although it seems slovenia is not as corrupt as say, Russia. It's really sad and ironic. An ideology which meant everyone was equal ended up fostering a greedy, hoarding values of whatever they could have in society. The reason why this happens is because we humans are naturally greedy, and the idea of a society where everyone's equal just goes against human nature. I'll explain more in the next chapter
Well, the reason people want more and more money is because it's instinct. We humans are naturally greedy bastards and if we could we would want everything in the world and more. If I gave you a blank cheque, you'd probably go on a spending spree with it, wouldn't you? There would be something you would want. However, we only have limited resources to satisfy these unlimited wants. You might want everything in the world, but do you have the resources (in this case money) to do so? No, you don't. And this is where capitalism comes in. Effectively capitalism is a system where we make use of this greedy principle of humans and make the best use of it. "OK, you want that? Well then, you have to pay for it, and you'll have to work for that money, and help someone else do something to make them money" that's the idea. Everyone's greedy pursuits end up benefitting each other.
"Capitalism might not be the perfect system, but it's the best system we got" and we've learnt that from the way Communism collapsed in 1989.
Communism sounds like a brilliant idea on paper, it really does, but in practise it just doesn't seem to work.

Oi oi >.> I think you are forgetting that we countries of ex Yugslavia were many times better off than Soviet Russia. We often even felt so. For example cars: They had Lada and the Yugoslav Yugo and Zasvata were so much better that mostly they didn't even bother importing it becose ours were so much better! Plus, while Soviet Russia and America were for a block seperated world like half of Europe were with Warzsawa pact and half not. Yugoslavia rejected the idea of a block sepetared world and we were also not under Soviet unions control no way. Ture we did somewhat depend and import a few things from them but only if we had to. And of course we didn't import stuff from calitalist countries >w>' The problem with Yugoslavai was Tito was an awesome leader ...but but there was nobody to replace him @_@ Nobody as awesoem as him at least. Thats why Yugoslavia fell in the end becose without his guidence the 6 nations started fighting and thats wh the war happened. When he was alive there was allways 'Bratstvo i jedinstvo' brotherhood and one goal. But in the end untill Serbia started to be a bit unfair to everybody else people were much more happy than today. It doesen't allways make you sad just becose you have less material.
PS When we joined forces after the seccond world war Tito prommised that a nation if it chooses to declare independance even under other rule (capitalism) can do so but the people after him didn't keep that promise @˘_@

I keep forgetting you were much more well off than the soviet-influenced states. I applaud you guys for not joining the soviet bloc ^^
And yeah, when you have an awesome leader and the next guy isn't as awesome as him, the country falls apart, and the hell that was the Balkans War erupts.

That's a good thing, I sometimes feel that good dictators can be more efficient that democracy because they can get things done faster and take a hard line on an issue, as long as they have the people's best interests in mind and they know what they're doing. Lee Kuan Yew, Prime Minister of Singapore is a very good example
Yes your right...btew let me tell you something. Uh today was a hard day I came from school lae becose I had a country German competition and when I got home by bus I decided I'll go practice in the music schol I went there and by the time I was comming home It was allready dark and I was realy tyred. I have a good light on my bike the dynamo is from East-germany...The best dynamos ei XD Anyway I was stopping at the last 3 road intersection with '1o km yess just one more to go and then I'm home' when some asshole in a faggy car came and beeped realy loud. ei I nearly droped in the sewage water ditch next to the road I got so scared @_@ Ei I HATE PEOPLE LIKE THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE THEIR THROATS CUT AND THEN HANGED ON THEIR FEET LIKE MUSSOLINI AS AN EXAMPLE! @˘______@
Yes, some of us love our cars...and hate others. Like Top Gear XD
Watch them show their particular hatred for the Morris Marina

While the Soviets were masters of Aerospace, science, spacecraft and weapons, they were CRAP when it came ot their cars. Apparently the planners never thought cars were important

Ei what the fuck do I care what they think they never drove them =.= Ok maybe test runs but that entirely different. In my oppinion have a car for 15 years then I value your oppinion abut it not sooner >_> How do YOU know? Have YOU ever driven one? I think not >_> You don't get to know a car in one day. I didn't even watch the video I'm sure theyll just say bad things abut it like they allways do.
