When the god and goddess created the universe, they found it empty and desolate. They knew they would need help to populate it, so they created the Ararm race.
The "artists of life" Ararm have unparalleled skill in magic associated with the soul. They have the unique ability to create and edit living creatures at will. All life in the universe can be traced back to them one way or another. They believe that all life is precious, and seek to preserve it wherever they can by housing, feeding, and rescuing them. They can even heal creatures by swallowing them whole into their stomach, which has a magical healing enzyme.
There used to be Ararm all over the universe, but a new, corruptive magic called "Waste" twisted most of them into evil animalistic husks, devoid of life. These husks, called Jachalocks, spread the waste and kill or corrupt any and all life they find.
Some believe that the Ararm never existed and that Jachalocks had always been the creature's original form. A lucky few know the truth, however, and have met some of the very few remaining pure ararm.
