He tried to summon a Hound Archon to be his bodyguard (given that mages are squishy and said archons are far from). Alas, as a lycanthrope (were-coyote) clearly in control of his faculties and capable of being any alignment compliant with summoning a Lawful-Good creature, he's of a level adjustment that makes it pretty much impossible for him to persist such a summon through normal means. So he's sadly forced to experiment and try adjusting a few variables, including trying to call up a younger/less powerful guard... and BOOM!
