So, this piece was for
confusionwithaK a short while back. I took a number of requests, and this was a slice-of-life suggestion he gave me. I ended up morphing that idea into an interaction between my paladin and the paladin's psuedo-dragon from an ongoing D&D campaign at my local library. The paladin's name is my one of my pseudonyms (Magnius), and the dragon's name is Fire-Jewel.

No, that's it really. You have a simple frame (two split) so you can split tense between frames. Issue, is just you don't split it between frames and just have the tense issues. You don't have to split tense as framing is hard and leads to issues. So can fix it all in past or keep present for the mind of the dragon and keep present for the human perspective. As usual, in most cases outside of a frame present tense should rarely be used.
