Rat understands well how survival instincts work, but it doesn't make easy to stay calm. After a trauma it is really hard to fight back the temptation, the impulse or the panic to do or not to do things about your inner wound. Tar suffered from starvation as hatchling which makes harder to resist food. But Tar is sorry, terrible sorry for doing it. Look, look, look! A small gift for forgiveness, maybe?

I assumed Tar would have mixed feelings about this. Yes, the rat could be a fine food but then you have to think about the tomorrow too - a flightless bird or an injured rat on a rotten ship has got no bright future. So now they need each other. There is hunger, there is the logical-truce thing on the plate and maybe also some loneliness.
