So, real talk: I feel that the Legend of Perseus is a bit of an underrated Greek Myth. Everyone loves Medusa and gorgons, but Perseus himself and the story Medusa comes from...eh not so much. Then again, Perseus' story is less about Perseus himself and more about the overly dramatic bickering between Athena and Poseidon. When one thinks about it, both him and Medusa are really pawns in the God's elaborate and petty game of chess.
But I'm not here to deconstruct Greek Myths, I'm here to basically ask 'what if someone took Greek Myth and made it into a Superhero Comic' or something to that effect. Kinda like Marvel's Thor, but not in a contemporary setting. I guess, as if retelling Greek Myth with a superhero-like flair.
Perseus, if you don't recall, is a Demi-God, the son of Zeus. I'd imagine Demi-Gods would have some mind of magical birthmark to identify their Godly heritage. In Perseus' case, he's got a lightning bolt on his face, the symbol of Zeus. I also took the time to draw out some of his gear, save his iconic Mirror Shield, a 'gift' from Athena to slay Medusa...a monster that she created herself if you know the legend. (I'm not saying I'd write the Gods as VILLAINS...I'm just saying the Gods are kinda villains.) Which is funny cause I originally began this project thinking that Medusa would be the big bad of the series, and I still might write her that way, just something to think about.
Also, drew the Winged Sandals, must be a spare pair of kicks Hermes keeps in his drawer, and the Invisibility Helmet, aka, the Helmet of Hades which grants Perseus invisibility. I've seen the helmet depicted as either a standard Spartan helmet or that winged helmet that Hermes wears, but, like, no. So wanted to depict it as more of a murmillo helmet.
Finally, Medusa herself. Naturally, did my best to make a good design for Medusa, something monstrous and evil, but still...well, let's call it what it is, hot. In the myth, Medusa gets her head cut off in her sleep, and if this were a one-off retelling, I'd probably still have Medusa be killed, but this is a world inspired by Greek Myth, so I'm sure she'd find some way to be resurrected or something. Like a Ganondorf sort of thing. Or maybe have her be some kind of reoccurring villain who can regrow her head, or regrow her Gorgon form from a single snake.
...Look, if Disney can depict Zeus and Hera as a loving couple in Hercules, I can mess around with the Greek Canon.
I wish I had the skill level to make comics, but I think it's good to have something like this in my back pocket for reference.
