"Fungi" is slang for a cordyceps spread exclusively amongst Maroth species that aggressively attacks the exoskeleton. While not immediately deadly to a Maroth like the cordyceps of lesser insectoids it can lead to secondary vulnerabilities to serious bacterial infections. Thanks to many genetic modifications to the maroth genome, only rarely does a Maroth have their neurological system breached before the "fungi" makes itself known symptomatically with exoskeletal irritation, blurred vision, nausea and high fever.
Whoof, finally got another page down! Burnout can play heck with one's drive let me tell ya! Granted it also didn't help that I suffered from a particularly nasty case of the flu which took me out for two weeks, but here it is now!
