I often ask myself why I bother doing these backgrounds, especially since I'm not the best at them, but the resulting picture wouldn't have been the same without one so I'm glad I went through the hassle :) (Also I somehow can't draw a pic without making a background with it lol)
I feel ya with the background. But hey, it's worth it in the end, right? Especially if you use mutliple layers to not mix everything up.
