The basic story I wanted is that a bunch of imperfect clones get sent on a mission to find a new colony planet so they don't get in the way of regular clone society with their individual quirks.
The bulk of these sketches was made in 2018/19. I then stopped for a while because I felt I was hitting a wall and instead tried to switch to a new design with less individual characters and a different story: https://www.deviantart.com/siansaar.....-1-3-813925914
Some two weeks ago I found myself thinking of the original concept again and wanted to get back into it. I decided to finally scan all the sketches I'd made prior. Took me an hour.
At first the characters were more insectile, but I didn't want to get too fancy with explanations, so I humanized the designs a bit more. Basically I wanted people to look at them, see that they're aliens, and that's it.
Right now my biggest trouble is actually coming up with a functional ship and the props they're using. The ship should be big enough to house living facilities but also small enough to fit a five person crew. I feel like I've got a shape I like, but making it make sense is hard. Maybe some of you have some suggestions.
My initial thoughts for their skin colour was red (because of the insectile theme), but I find it hard to mix that with other colours. Since they're imperfect clones, I want them to have similar colours but with subtle differences. My current plan is shades of green cause it easily identifies them as aliens.
Characters! We've got:
The Captain: Angry little gremlin who's overly eager to prove herself.
The Mechanic: Loves to build experimental technology and keeps blowing up stuff.
The Scout/Navigator: A scaredy-cat with a bad sense of direction.
The Nurse/Medic: Happy-go-lucky but keeps collecting too much stuff like dangerous creatures and deadly viruses.
The Pilot: More concerned with being "cool" than actually flying the way she's supposed to. Likes to do risky maneuvers and otherwise as little work as possible.
