Stylistically,
ealadubh suggested leaning on Don Bluth's dragons. I've actually never played Dragon's Lair, but Bluth's monsters have a weight and a shape that's easy to work with. But I think my final dragon design draws a little more from Tony DiTerlizzi's designs. DiTerlizzi's dragons are just that great, and it's a pleasure to steal from him.
I think my leprechaun mostly draws from Chuck Jones' Wearing of the Grin short, though I like Brian Froud's design of them wearing tricorn hats. Somehow it looks less hokey to me then green tophats or derbies.
