It's not the animation that bothers me so much, I happen to think it looks quite good, and it allows for some decent visual jokes. Still, Thomas the Tank Engine isn't really meant to be visually exciting, they're bedtime stories. The part that really bugs me is all the new, incredibly cheesy and predictable stores, misunderstood characters (James' new voice made me want to cry it was so terrible) and an almost total lack of everything that made the old episodes hold up.
PS, I saw the CGI Hugo and that looked just as bad.
