I thought real Marzipan was supposed to taste like a Turk. To have the imprint of sweaty palms and hairy chests that had only the day before been gathering poppy plants, so that the sweet balm of opium clung to the tray and perfumed the marzipan as it set. To have the slight tang of bitter thick Turkish coffee. To reek in a evocative way of the salt and iodine air of the Bosphorus. Etc. etc.

I always hated the stuff myself, though I would love to be able to make beatifully rendered furries with it, and put them on cakes.
