Here's where we see a bit more of Odysseus' demonic nature. He's mostly using her as an oasis in this desert of stress and anger.
Kind of refreshingly honest to see in his inner monologue whereas a more human character would use it to try to justify their selfish wants.
I think he does just enjoy her company at least a bit, though. ;)

One of the things that I really want for Odysseus is that he is only ever a demon - he's not misunderstood, doesn't feel sorry for anything that he does, etc.
That said, keeping her around for his sanity is a good way not to admit how much he likes his pet human. xD
