A boy in 1940s Liverpool has a strange vision in the sky...
This is in honor of John Lennon's 81st birthday today, because I didn't think of it in time for last year.
This is largely inspired by the way 'Walrus' was used in the Cirque du Soleil's Beatles-themed show 'Love', which I saw about ten years ago (I hear 'Walrus' has since been cut from the show, which is very disappointing).
How it used to play out, after 'Eleanor Rigby' sets the scene for bleak, postwar Liverpool, the Walrus pops out of a giant egg to lead the cast in a wild, chaotic dance to signal change is coming and Beatlemania is on its way. Except, for some reason, the Cirque du Soleil Walrus was a skinny hiphop dancer with tattoos all over him and a gas mask with tusks. I wanted to make him more walrus-y.
Happy birthday John.

GOO GOO GJOOB!!
Btw: The song is inspired by the "Walrus and the Carpenter" segment in the original Alice in Wonderland book, but what John didn't realize until after the song was published was that the Walrus in the story is an antagonist figure. He later went on to say as much, saying, "I thought, Oh, shit, I picked the wrong guy. I should have said, 'I am the carpenter.' But that wouldn't have been the same, would it?"

Right, but I mean... The dude ate ALL the oysters AND led them out of the sea Pied Piper style. He was the perpetrator, the carpenter was more or less a hapless accomplice. It's like comparing someone who committed the murder to someone who more or less just helped them carry and bury the body. ...And give them the gun/incentive, in a way.
...Yes, I am the kind of person to entertain these sort of friendly diatribes, and yes, I'm fun at parties as a result. ;P
