Actually the first Discworld book I read, it was awkward without the context of the first 26 books. Though billed as a book in the Rincewind saga, he's barely in it. This is Book 27: The Last Hero. The now ancient hero, Cohen the Barbarian wants to go out in a blaze in glory and plans to take the gods of Discworld with him. The race is on to stop him and his troupe.
