Budo Budo was the monster of the week in Ep.57 of the Grendizer anime & was the 62nd Monster to appear in the series. It was more robotic than the more Cybernetic Vega Beasts and was briefly control by a small child, Kiyoshi, who Himself was control by the invaders. It could fly, fire beams from its eyes, breath fire from its mouth, spin its horns to burrow underground & use its claws as missiles - its wing were strong enough to block Double Cutter.

Budo resembles an anthropomorphic beetle, with four brown colors arm with black claws for hands, legs had a same color scheme; its body was a round red purple color shape with a red and pink mid section cut by a yellow chest plate, a pink line runs down the back; the head was dark purple with a red snout and top, black horns.

The events of the story center around the child of a single parent, Kiyoshi, who while alone at home playing with his pet Beetle (Budo Budo) witnesses the murder of two Tokyo officers and disintegration of their cop car by Zuril – the latter leading a convoy of trucks into a construction site. He later brings a third cop to the site, but is surprise to know by radio the two officers and the car were back in the precinct save and sound. After been reprimanded to his mother by the officer, the child runs back home to keep watch on the site, unbeknownst to many, been another secret Vega Base, were the new Vega Beast is been build to attack the Tokyo – Zuril watches from the security screens the boy looking at the site, calling him into suspicion.

The following day, Zuril meets the Boy and his beetle in the park, and is surprise to know the child, do to his loneliness and inner frustration, would want for his pet to grow and destroy (WTF?); Zuril hypnotizes the Child and takes him and Budo Budo to the secret Base, where the child is reprogram, a control chip is installed on his hat – the use for him comes when Zuril learns Koji and Maria are in Tokyo and decides to capture them.

Side Note: what happens to the pet Beetle itself is really not certain, if transformed and incorporated into the Beast or killed by Zuril of screen, either way it was done so off screen, the monster was been assemble at the time of Zuril first spotting the kid - the last scene of the little guy was following both Kiyoshi and Zuril when leaving the park, but it is implied it was killed. Have to see the Episode two more times just to be certain.

In their visit, Maria, excited to be in Tokyo for the first time, goes store to store buying stuff or seeing expensive dresses , though Koji is the one forking the bill – after their usual berating, they separate and she meets Kiyoshi, who distracts her long enough for a group of bikers (Vega Agents) to corner her and release a knockout gas; the villains take Maria and leave the child with the instruction to expect Koji and guide him to the base. When he later stumbles upon Koji, he guides him to the base, where Zuril springs his trap activating the Vega Beast Budo Budo. The beast burrows its way into the city and begins its attack, blasting and burning everything on sight, Kiyoshi (still under control) cheers the beast from the sidelines, while Koji calls for help – Grendizer along with the Double and Drill Spazers (in auto pilot) are launched. Koji and Maria then find the child and he doesn't heed their calls.

The Spazers arrive, and the pilots board their ships as Grendizer ejects and hits Budo with a Dizer kick – the Beast responds with Missiles, taking down the mecha, and grabbing it by the leg in flight, though Koji frees it with a Double Cutter. The beast zaps Grendizer, as Maria provides assistance with Drill Missile, knocking the beast down; as Budo escapes by flight, Duke and Koji combine and attack with Double cutter, though Budo repels it with its wings, the beast then avoids Drill Missile and lands close to Kiyoshi, the child been tossed by the monster passing over him, been release from the Control of Vega. Looking at the destruction cause by Budo Budo, he begs the monsters to stop, which he does but is rapidly control by the Vega directly and continues its fight, missing stepping on the child. Despite trying to control him, after talking with Koji and Maria, Kiyoshi comes to realize his dear Budo Budo is gone for good.

Duke takes charge of the fight by blasting the Beast's face with Space Thunder, then hitting it in the back with Double Harken; the monster attempts to escape again, Grendizer and Double Spazer combining; Double Cutter is use once again but again fails, taking its chance as its about to fire its missile, Duke fire Double Screw Crusher Punch, piercing the monster, then hits it with Space Thunder as the beast loses control, crashing and exploding on impact.

After the battle, Kiyoshi is reunited with his mother, who promises to believe in him more often and not leave alone.
