some kind of guitar pickin' tomboy/cat
[NOTE: These designs are not complete entities, but should be seen as
mix-and-match sets of attributes. The feet and ears of one can easily be
placed on the body of another, etc. I'll cobble together a final design from
a mix of these components, based on what people think and my own judgement.
Please keep that in mind if you want to give feedback on what you think works or what you don't like.]
unlike the rooster, who started out pretty much as a blank slate character,
i already have some ideas for this one.
she's the youngest in the group and from a suffocatingly southern
conservative background. she either feels very different from the rest of the
(small) world that she knows and wants out, or else actually is
different in some fundamental way (hairless?).
her heroes are going to be in-word furry equivalents to johnny cash and
hank williams, and when she plays she feels free, that sort of thing, music
considered uncool and old fashioned by her peers.
i'm toying with the idea of her being a sphynx breed (i.e. no hair) and
wringing some 'u ain't pretty' drama out of that :) and also it would
allow for tattoo imagery. mmmaybe some gender identity stuff going on
(the dog calls her "dude" and "bro", but he's also a little slow (which is
funny because he's the drummer and has to keep the beat)).
buuut, i also like the way cats poof up when agitated and there could be
fun with that too, so either way really. maybe a mixed breed sphynx/tabby
cat? :)
anyway, she just wants a ticket out of town and the promise of urbane
tolerance and off-stage anonymity, along with on-stage fame and panties
flung at the guitarist, etc. even before reaching Bremen, she's dazzled by
the "bright lights big city" of the smaller towns they pass through, and
initially latches onto Gerik as a fuck-the-world tough cookie rolemodel,
much to his annoyance and her eventual education.
Also, much like Gerik having wingfingers, I'm making an initial executive decision: she wears a sweatband on the forearm over her fingering hand. So there.

Head of the 1st, pants and tail of the third, boots and whiskers of the second. I like the shirt of the second as well. Guitar could be anything, though the acoustic seems to fit the idea more, at least in my mind. Though you do risk being cliche with it. Perhaps she starts with an acoustic and somehow gets her hands on an electric? Not sure.
I really really like the idea of a sphynx cat; very uncommon and unusual sort of breed you don't see too often, and like you said it gives an opportunity for tattoos and other fun things. The overall design and instrument of the far left one, combined with most of the clothing and accessories of the far right one appeal to me a lot as far as imagery goes. Perhaps give her the buzzcut with the hairlessness (I dunno if that's a word) too? Maybe even keep the pocket bandanna and cowboy hat to go better with the acoustic guitar.
I like the furriness of the third one but the dropped nose of the first. The 'sphinx' thing doesn't work to me as they're so wrinkly which would make it harder to depict her as young. I like the skirt/blouse of #2 but the lack of accessories of #1. I'm torn between the trucker cap (which helps out with her being called dude like you mentioned) and the cowboy hat (as it reinforces her difference from the others in the band). Cowboy boots yes. Western style hollow body guitar, too. Wheee! Glad to see more of these, hope this was somewhat helpful. *hug*
Maybe she can be shaved. That way you can have the buzzcut hair, but it reaches all the way down her back and tail. That way you get the best of both worlds, tattoos on the bare flesh, and hair in the spots that spike for maximum show of emotion when she's pumped on her jams. Also, just a suggestion, gray fur for when she's under colorful stage lights, if you know what I mean.
some looking up shows that they actually are even more wrinkly when they are kittens and younger, and then tend to "smooth out" as they get older and plump/fit into their skin better - though yes, still wrinkled even then.

You're right about the looking old thing! And that may also be an interesting hook - looking much older than you really are, and kids can be so cruel about that sort of thing. HMM.
Also, this is just too cute to me.
Anyway, regardless of what they actually look like, i could always claim some sort of artistic license :B
Thanks!

It's cool. I really hate it when that happens. On Flickr you can do all the editing/deletion you want. Aw well. And I even learned something about this kind of cat. I can already tell that your going to go for it by how much it's brought up. It's already barrowed into a subconious suggestion. But I'm sure you'll make it look good.
as awesome and unique as the sphinx is, i think it'll be a big stretch to make it read cat iconic and not... naked rat or something. and agreeing with t that it'll impede on the youthful look, if you want it to look like a sphinx and not a shaved cat. nice double entendre though.
i love the down turned nose like in op 1 and three. i could see either 2 or 3 tail on her, but i think bushy it a less explored option for cat designs for some reason. i like 2 over all for attire, but am a little nuts over some western aspects. though i think it would be rad if she played a flying v.

Love the floofed up tail of the middle design, I can see her slowly thrashing it back and forth when pestered by something/one. Prominent whiskers are a good feature too, punch up the feline aspect a bit more than perhaps other more generic felines around her? Would it be possible to make part of her coat fluffier than the rest? Not an expert on cat breeds so don't know what I'm talking about. If she's going to be jumping around that much on stage, sneakers might be the most practical (never worn cowboy boots so I don't know how much arch support/impact absorbtion they have). Skirt and sneakers would be a cute combo. She could wear several long bandanas around her neck plus the trucker cap? I guess i'm kind of envisioning Molly Ringwald, definitely girly with a pouty, sort of p.o.'d teen attitude. Sorry! This is all just meaningless rambling on my part-PLEASE IGNORE!
I really like the idea of a Sphinx cat. You lose the fur reactions, but I think you could express her emotions via the ears and maybe even the whiskers (like fur, you know? sticking straight out, or drooping or curling up in mischievous glee, etc), movement lines on her tail when she's upset and it's thrashing.
overall I like 1 but I like the boots of 2 and could be convinced of either the tight pants or the skirt. The spurs on 3 might be going too far. The bangles are a little more girtly and the cuff girly-or-rockout so maybe the cuff over the bangles?

Let's see... my mix-and-match cat (and have you been thinking for a name for her, yet?) would consist roughly of these parts: the buzzcut head with floppy ears but prominent whiskers and upturned nose; plain or bushy tail; tight pants and cowboy boots, maybe with those spurs. Acoustic and electric guitar are both good possibilities.
I like the overall design of 'door number three', I think the only thing I'd change is maybe put the chunky cuffs on her. I like her having pants on, as she seems energetic and I don't know how well you can jump about with shirt skirts on (not a skirt wearer!), it just seems more practical.
Something about the profile in number two makes her seem more "girly-girl", I guess I prefer the other ones because they're not so overt. I'm sorry if this is rambling and odd, I am very tired :D
